Not sure about the rules around this but with Klay’s contract negotiations. . . Hypothetically he signs a team friendly contract. Why couldn’t the Lacobs have a handshake agreement, they’ll employ him in some sort of ambassadorial/marketing job in one of their other companies once he retires and just give him millions?

“Why can’t they simply cheat? Are they stupid?”

Off course as long as he wants to be an executive. Which he probably doesnt.

Great way for the league to strip a few first round picks from you!

Why are people trying themselves in knots trying to make sure a guy who was never the best player on his team, has earned $220mil over his career, and is totally washed, gets another huge payday?

Why can't every team just give their players lesser contracts and promise other forms of payments that don't count towards the salary cap? Are they stupid?

Yes. But Klay's also hot tempered and therefore not reliable. Imagine Klay pulling a Harden on Lacob, except with receipts.

It's explicitly against the CBA to offer any sort of inducement other than the player salary as a way to circumvent the cap. Period.

Klay is not worth the trouble bud. Guy is washed.

Why would you risk potentially losing draft picks for Klay?

"Mike Dunleavy is a liar and I will never be a part of an organisation that he's a part of" - Klay after he takes less money and they refuse to max him after averaging 10/3/2 on 35 FG%
