The Timberwolves now sit at 13-4, the current #1 seed in the Western Conference, almost 1/4 through the season.

Rudy Gobert defensive rating: 102.3 (#1 in the league)

KAT defensive rating: 104 (#2 in the league this year / averaged 109 historically)

Timberwolves: 106.6 (#1 in the league)

If they make the finals this year; are we still saying it was an overpay?

Tbh I don't care. We bought the house and it's a nice fucking house :)

I'm enjoying it!

But something that is underrated is how he's affecting the development of Ant, KAT, Jaden and our other young players. He's teaching our young players and even masterminding the defense with the coaches. He designed the Wolves defense with Finch and Turner. That's a permanent imprint that will last with this franchise long after he's gone. Ant, Jaden and KAT's development is 100% my priority because they are the best assets for this franchise (not 4 picks). What he's teaching them will stay with them the rest of their careers.

To me the trade will always be an “overpay” but if it yields them something like a championship I’m willing to call it a good trade for the wolves but still an overpay. They aren’t mutually exclusive sometimes you have to overpay

KAT is an elite defender. What a sentence.

I am still leaning overpay because of how good Walker Kessler has been.

If they win the title this year or any 1 year during Gobert/KAT then it’s not an overpay.

More likely to end up like the 2021 Jazz.

I think it can simultaneously be an overpay but still pay off. Objectively, they probably didn't need to pay that much for Gobert, or perhaps could have got someone better than Gobert with the same package. However, if you win a championship it's obviously worth it no matter how much you pay. How far you go down the ladder of what's worth it is subjective, but Minnesota hasn't really had any playoff success in a while (ever?). I'm sure Wolves fans would be quite happy with the trade if they get to see them continue this form rest of season and make a legitimate effort at a playoff run - regardless of how many rounds they make it.

AHAHAHAHA AHAHAH you think they gonna make the finals? AHAHAHHA

Timberwolves were probably the #1 team Rudy could succeed on. Definitely a great combination. Would be exciting to see them make the finals!

who would have thought an NBA front office knows more than r/nba

There is a LOT of season left but playing at this level no, it is not an overpay.

Also, how would something be an overpay if they make the finals? Isn’t that the goal?

Fake 1 seed

Obviously if they make the finals it's not an overpay. A more interesting question is "how far do they need to make it to not be considered an overpay" and I'd say losing a tight series in the 2nd round to a great team.

Could we wait until the All Star break at least? We’re not even at the 1/4 of the season yet. If they have a deep playoff run, it might not be such an overpay, but come on, it’s still one of the worst trades in NBA history. A ring definitely fixes things, but we’re a long road away from that!

Classic early season overreaction.

Everyone seems to always forget the lessons learned in the postseason as the fresh narratives of a new regular season emerge. The post-season game still matters A LOT more.
