Lemmy is developed by two (2) people and asking for one of them to leave is effectively just killing the project. If you don't like it, you can move to an alternative such as PieFed.

Personally, I can't make myself care about this too much. It's a doshit take (somewhat understandable considering the guy's background), but it was publicised over a year ago, he hasn't said this sort of crap since then, and Dessalines' whiteknighting for Russia is IMO way more of an issue morally and politically. But at the end of the day the question is whether Lemmy works fine for you or not and whether the admins' opinions harm your experience. I don't think they do, Dessalines bans criticism on his turf but it's just a handful of communities, while the devs are still providing the infrastructure for diametrically opposed views and communities.

That's a common situation with open source software. It doesn't belong to anyone basically. And as long as it doesn't inherently bring something malicious as a technology (and Lemmy doesn't), I don't care. By the way, there's another major contributor to Lemmy, who is a Catholic... I also did (doing) minor contributions. I'm pro-Ukraine and non-binary. And there are hundreds of contributors in the repo who are probably of very different political views

There you go! Have at it, champ!

Must surely suck to be the guy. He (unintentionally probably) created a safe space for people hating him. I guess contributions on the Lemmy Github or other fediverse projects like piefed are welcome and probably more efficient than trying to force one of the two lead developers out with a petition.

My friend you are making a fool of yourself. Neither knowing how Open Source works or how organisation works.

I might be giving out boomer vibes saying this. but i believe chris rock said it best:

In the old days, if somebody wanted your job, they just worked harder than you. Now, somebody wants your job, they just wait for you to say some dumb shit.

And lets not start talking about richard stallman opinions about child sexuality ... (although tbf eventually he retract his statements).

Imagine if he would have got cancelled before the GNU project started. open source would not have been where it is today. and as someone who likes biographies let me suggest that there is a reason they say "never meet your heroes". but the problem now is you can read about them on the internet. martin luther king cheated a lot, benjamin frankling owned slaves (although at some point he released them) and the list can go on. All people that did very good things.

People might do great things. but they are not infallible . in fact they could spend so much time and thought on achieving great things they might not have time and attention to develop "normal" attitudes about day to day living.

and adding an extra constraint when hiring for a project that is already competing with companies with billions of dollars in budget is not prudent.

I mean, I'm not standing up for the guy, but this petition description does not at all give off a serious tone. Especially at the end.

  • You need to have a single clear goal. Not give alternatives, like firing/hiring someone else, maybe someone who is trans and may or may not have a weeb thing going on...
  • Definitely end the description ("the issue") before you start talking about yourself and your own personal opinions,
  • and before you start to ramble and say you are "shit posting". That is not what you wanna see in a petition.
  • Make objective statements about the issue and what effect is has; highlight the problem.

Make it serious and I'd be happy to sign. 🤝

You should also include their support for russian genocidal imperialism.

Let's hope one day Nutomic, Dessalines and all other degenerate tankie roaches end up in a russian prison. It will be a good lesson for them.

I'm deliberately choosing not to make this about my own views on anarchy vs fake authoritarian socialism, because I want to find common ground with the Lemmy development team in terms of agreeing that transphobia has no place in any version of leftism and no place on Lemmy

[–] Alphane_Moon@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So would you be OK with treating transphobia in the same way? Not bother with it in an attempt to find common ground?

[–] Genius@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

No, and I see your point. Sorry for forgetting that we're stronger together. I'm making a stand right now and saying Nutomic is a fake socialist who values power over fairness, and his erasure of indigenous communism is deeply racist. He should also be fired for his denial of genocide.

[–] Tuuktuuk@piefed.ee 2 points 20 hours ago

The only thing this petition can achieve is maybe getting a few people to move their donations to projects such as PieFed.

Beside that... Well, Nutomic and Dessalines are the two people who decide on how to act regarding this petition – if they should remove themselves or not. I find it unlikely that they will look at the finished petition and go "oh, people want us gone. Okay, we'll do that".

But yeah: Do not give money to Lemmy. There are other projects that are compatible with Lemmy and have use for your money as well, without being assholes :)

Tankies support outright slaughter of Ukrainians on the daily but a shitpost by this guy is the real issue for OP

🤡

fork lemmy, for the people who don't want to move to piefed.
