How about the USA adopts instead? How about that, Tim apple?

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

Shut the fuck Apple, you are US company. Get out of here.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Oh no. Not pornography apps. Whatever will we do. Aaah.

The EU has plenty of talent and ideas. (ESA? RasPi? ARM?) It needs to liberate its people from dependence on US corps and create its own net economy, infrastructure and great sites.

Here in the US? time for these trillionaire monopolists to get their due. Good to see InternetArchive.eu get established!

kate says apple should give me a billion dolar

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I say we should get rid of Apple.

The company further claimed that the European Commission has almost exclusively focused its enforcement measures on Apple. The iPhone manufacturer has been targeted by the commission five times, which it says is more than all other competitors combined.

That's because you have significantly more restrictions than all other competitors combined.

Shocking news: New law against lead in daher exclusively targets the company that puts lead in water!

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

the commission should preventively sue google for what they are planning to do with their full lockdown of android in 2 years. their plans almost certainly violate the dma by artificially restricting 3rd party app stores. bonus point would be that apple couldn't say this anymore.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 7 points 2 days ago

Yeah well:

  1. That's then and this is now
  2. They haven't even figured out how to effectively stop Apple so I'm not too confident in their abilities.

It's like Jack the Ripper complaining about the police chasing him, with all the other murderers that are also around.

[–] nuggie_ss@lemmings.world 18 points 2 days ago

That means they should keep it.

[–] dinckelman@lemmy.world 57 points 2 days ago

We should also get rid of seatbelts, and let construction workers put asbestos back into things then. How dare these laws inconvenience a multi-trillion dollar corporation

[–] UnfortunateShort@lemmy.world 55 points 2 days ago

This EU citizen thinks that Apple should go pound sand

"For the first time, pornography apps are available on iPhone from other marketplaces — apps we’ve never allowed on the App Store because of the risks they create, especially for children," the California-based company said in a press release.

Yea, because European parents are known for buying children expensive iPhones, unlocking it to allow third party Apps and install porn Apps right away. It is called parental control…

The case doesn’t sound constructed at all.

[–] FrostyPolicy@suppo.fi 46 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The classical "think of the children" argument. They truly are desperate to keep their walled garden. The EU is doing the right thing.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 24 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Except when they're ID-gating the entire internet. Or dismantling encryption.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The horror! Just imagine if children were able to access the exact same content from Apple's Safari browser! 😱🖕

[–] czl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

Jokes on you, I have a third party porn app on my phone. And I’m a child.

Not in my age though, just a manchild….

Mafia demands removal of laws regarding organized crime, and to make extortion legal.

[–] darkkite@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Unfair competition: The DMA’s rules only apply to Apple, even though Samsung is the smartphone market leader in Europe, and Chinese companies are growing fast. Apple has led the way in building a unique, innovative ecosystem that others have copied — to the benefit of users everywhere. But instead of rewarding that innovation, the DMA singles Apple out while leaving our competitors free to continue as they always have.

I don't get this? isn't samsung android based which allows sideloading by defaul?

[–] Attacker94@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's a strawman argument yes, but it is soon to not be the case because of changes to sideloading on the android side.

[–] darkkite@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That is true, but rooted devices, non-certfied android devices, and adb still allows users to sideload without restriction though the direction is concerning.

[–] Attacker94@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Rooted devices & custom roms, depending on your jurisdiction are illegal or might as well be, they also require a intermediate tech knowledge, and in the case of custom ROMs, google just gutted the development cycle for aosp. Adb is by definition for developers, and I don't know what you mean by non-certified android devices.

All in all, it seems like only tech enthusiasts living in places that are pro right to own & repair will ever take advantage of this, which means in practice, there are only two platforms for the average consumer and both are attempting to stop you from circumventing their walled gardens.

[–] _cryptagion@anarchist.nexus 10 points 2 days ago

“Why won’t you guys think of the children!”

With the recent push for age verification in the UK, they saw an opening that will let them wall up the garden again.

Apple can suck my dick anytime. Shitty company.
