Cost of these things is part of it, but honestly used Tesla and bolts are getting relatively cheap now. The biggest problem I see is charging infrastructure, specifically in apartment buildings.

It isn't a problem for those owning their driveway. I don't even know how to count the number of home owners in Canada.
My partner just picked up a used Nissan leaf last Friday. I already have an older Ioniq. Not a chance in hell we'd drive an ICE ever again.
Those complaining about price chose to be blind about second-hand, depreciated EVs.
Those complaining about charging chose to be blind about the greater convenience of charging at home.
Gee I wonder why? Nobody has any money.
Plenty of cars on the roads, plenty of affordable second-hand EVs for sale.
But the people selling the vehicles likely are buying a different vehicle afterwards.
I've always said that electric cars are basically a red herring for improving society. I don't really care much because it's a lateral move. Call me when we start getting electric cars of the train variety.
No matter how you try to twist it, less noise, higher torque, regen braking, no local emissions and home charging are better for society.
Marginally, compared to the large detriment that car dependency objectively is, and the raw materials extraction required for everybody to own 1, 2, 3+ cars. My comparison isn't with ICE cars, it's with functional public transit systems. I don't wish to argue about the particulars because inherently cars are the wrong solution to moving a lot of people around, because it's bad for society and doesn't even scale well, evidenced by the 401 and many other major highways.
