A special election in Arizona provides the 218th signature to force a vote on the release of files related to Epstein

Donald Trump is reportedly scrambling to sway the three Republican congresswomen who signed the petition to force a vote ordering the release of all government files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

And Republican leaders in the House of Representatives are trying to stop the vote from happening now that enough members of Congress have signed a measure to force a full floor vote and Democrats recently gained a deciding vote on the measure.

Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) put forth a bipartisan discharge petition to release files related to the late convicted sex offender and pedophile. A discharge petition needs to receive the signatures of a majority of members to force a vote without the consent of leadership.

What do they think is so damning about these files? He's already gotten away with just about every other crime on the books.

MAGA has had pedophile conspiracies since the Clinton years, so to see their Beloved Leader involved would actually cause him political harm.

MAGA has had pedophile conspiracies since the Clinton years, so to see their Beloved Leader involved ~~would actually~~ should cause him political harm, but it won't.

if it wouldn't, they wouldn't be trying this hard to bury it. you've got to understand that conservatism is an idealogy fueled mostly by disgust at its core. they're immune to shame, reason, and for the love of God stop trying to point out hypocrisy.

but they will sway when faced with things they already spent their entire lives grooming to be disgusted by. not in a "woah Trump is a pedophile after all? this changes everything" way, they're not capable of that. but younger generations are more prone to think things like "Damn, unc Rogan really did get me to vote for a pedophile. what if I did just get groomed?". And getting those kids to shut the fuck up and actually watch what their parents do can change them.

this is the kind of realization that flooding the zone and telling impressionable young boys that they're super smart and know better than everyone prevents

I agree with everything you said, but Trump isn't a normal political leader. He's their cult leader, and every accusation is a lib projection! You will never get them to turn on Trump.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Maga won't. they're batshit crazy and will just instantly take to TikTok about how pedophilia is normal actually. for them, disgust is transferable.

but Gen Z had functioning brains once. I saw them have brains. they're capable of learning new things which is why Maga hard focused on selling them tough guy meme shit last election. they're not full on the crazy juice yet even after this PR stunt with Kirk but people gotta stay tuned in to what they actually respond to before the Christian industry sucks them all up.

Not just that, it also devalues the information contained within as extortion leverage.

If everyone already knows, how's he gonna threaten Senator Perpetrator with exposure?

Edit: grammar

[–] defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Trump is just going to call them fake anyway and his supporters would rather believe him than open their eyes, since opening their eyes would be woke.

[–] Azal@pawb.social 7 points 1 day ago

I don't expect much, but to keep an idea I keep wandering over to the conservative areas.

The Epstein Files are the only thing I've seen he's not been able to shake off from his cult.

[–] manxu@piefed.social 103 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How can anyone support a regime that is so dead set against transparency when it comes to a known criminal pedophile ring?

The GOP surely must realize this is looking increasingly horrible for them. What could possibly be in these files that fighting for their secrecy is so important? (Sort of rhetorical question, I know what could be so important it must be hidden.)

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I'm pleasantly surprised to see most the magas I know wanting the files released. First time I have seen them split from the trump cult.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 34 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No, they say that they want that, but in reality they will not care either way.

Deep down, they have already known he's in it, and they have already chosen that they will ignore it.

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We might be witnessing TACOman splitting from his own cult here, and not the cult splitting from him.

[–] DarkSpectrum@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Yep, doesn't need em anymore. And if they get mad about, he'll deal with them with military like everyone else.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The files could come with unredacted video of Donald Trump with some teenage girls and they will try to rationalize it away. "They say that girl is only 15, but look at her! No way she's that young. You see, the Radical Left created another Nothingburger...."

[–] Omnipitaph@reddthat.com 21 points 1 day ago

I have no faith in the justice of the USA anymore. His whole base could turn against him and he'd wiggle his way out of any punishment the same way he has before as acting president. Immunity.

Just RUNNING for second term had courts dropping cases from him.

There are too many people in power that want him in power for anything to happen. Even if all those people are on the list, which duh of course they are, those people have enough influence that they could feasibly keep power.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 81 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Enough will cave to "miraculously" give Trump the win, because conservatives have no virtue or shame.

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I expect him to sway some democrats instead. Especially the ones sucking hard on the mega-donors teats.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I expect whatever magic number is necessary to maintain the moral evasion and manufactured opposition the oligarchy require.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If he's brought down by a cultist who believes in Jewish space lasers I'm gonna laugh. But that hinges on the rest of his cult caring that he raped kids, which is doubtful.

MTG is actually a really accurate distillation of the most common red state maga voter. People really should pay attention to the kinds of brainworms that make her tick.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

They certainly may come up with enough threats and/or money to do the job.

Easy...personal limo plane with heated jacuzzi and pool with very hung pool boys...legal 21 year old boys. Easy! That's like a million plus some maintenance.

Trump using Putin's playbook. Expect defenestrations, car crashes , poison

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

He skipped over that and went straight to troops in the streets.
