I tried to launch a game from Heroic on the Deck for the first time in a month or so and it's loading for a few seconds and then exiting.

  • Same from game mode or desktop
  • Same for different proton versions
  • Same for Epic, GOG, and Amazon games
  • Same after reinstalling a game
  • Other Steam and non-Steam games run fine

I've probably applied several updates since I last ran a game so no doubt a huge number of things have changed since the last good state. I can't see anyone else reporting similar issues so I know it's very optimistic from me, but does anyone have any suggestions? Even an idea of how to get some logs out would be useful!

I had similar problem and the culprit was UMU launcher. Try deleting these files and see if it helps:

rm -rfv ~/.var/app/com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl/config/heroic/tools/runtimes/umu
rm -rfv ~/.local/share/umu

You could also check the log files at Settings-> Logs in case there are any helpful error messages.

I think this has fixed it! You're a wizard!

You should be able to try to launch the games in a readable terminal from heroic, from game properties or something.

That should allow you to see any errors.

Which game? Or does no game work?

On the Github Issue Tracker https://github.com/Heroic-Games-Launcher/HeroicGamesLauncher/issues I don't see any raised issue for the launcher itself. I personally don't use Heroic Games Launcher, so cannot assist with detail or otherwise look into.

I had something similar happen a few months ago. I went into.....I think it's wine version or something like that, I'll check when I get home. Anyway I set everything to use the latest version of proton, then went into wine/proton version/download and selected the option to always download the latest version of proton. Seemed to work for me? Not sure if it's the same thing for you. Someone above mentioned trying to start games with logging switched on. The log should give you a better idea.
