Priority handles will be free and “often include full names, multi-word phrases, or alphanumeric combinations.” Rare handles, on the other hand, will be a paid option, and “may be priced anywhere from $2,500 to over seven figures, depending on demand and uniqueness.”

Ok so if it's a "high demand" handle then I guess they bend you over for it. Domains are like that too, but it isn't exactly something to strive for.

But more importantly, if you ever downgrade your X subscription, your account will revert back to your original username, and you’ll lose access to the one you snagged through the marketplace.

I really hope someone pays 7 figures for one only to get fucked by this. I want to see it so badly.

... will they at least ask the account owners first...? I have many sleeper accounts. They are mine.

@TehPers @crandlecan In fact they aren't yours. I guess that there are no legal restrictions to just take them away from you.

Yup. Exactly what happened with @x and @music.

Wrong. It's called Twitter.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 13 points 1 month ago

It's Xitter, pronounced as "sh".

twitter is long gone, sorry

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 4 points 1 month ago

Do their emails finally no longer have "formerly twitter" in the title?

[–] thingsiplay@beehaw.org 2 points 1 month ago

Fair enough actually.

No. The fascist platform is called X.

Sorry but I will feel zero percent bad about deadnaming a company owned by a transphobe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sounds like a good way to impersonate and use the reputation of someone who's active on other platforms. Just like the "verified" stuff mostly just means you paid, not that your identity was verified which is always confusing people who aren't careful, often used/confused by right-wing "news".

Selling inactive handles? That almost sounds like DNS. You know, what Bluesky uses for usernames.

Is... that a reference to Frankie and Johnny's???

Um... Hello, fellow person who grew up in or around New Orleans in the 1990s. How are things? Where did you wind up after Katrina? I have no idea how to handle someone just randomly referencing commercials I had completely forgotten about.

[–] GrindingGears@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It is, and the funny thing is, I'm actually Canadian. That commercial used to be on during the Simpsons, it was an affiliate channel they used to broadcast into Canada.

Although I did happen to visit NOLA a couple of years ago for work, and had a great time. I even thought of Frankie and Johnny and was prepared to go, as I figured my sister would get a kick out of a selfie in front of the store. Unfortunately I found out it wasn't there anymore :(

And actually as a correction, I think it was Love Connection and Married with Children when that commercial was on, and not the Simpsons. Regardless, Frankie and Johnny are internationally immortal.
