I always feel like I'm humblebragging when I post something like this, but the blood donors sub on Reddit has a ton of these and someone has to generate posted material. So I guess reporting all my donations it is
I hate platelet donations. They take forever, and I get called for another donation in less than a week. I'm used to donating double units of red blood (O-).
Hey, double red is necessary too, and whole blood is the recommended donation for O- folk, so it's all fine!
I think I called up the Red Cross sometime after my first few donations and told them to put me on the do not call list and haven't received a call since! Do you donate elsewhere, or did you call up and they are still bothering you? Either way, my sympathies
I donate at a local blood institute. I didn't mind them calling me, but after my first platelet donations they only call me about platelets. I didn't have time for that, I've got a 2yo and one on the way. Gimme the quicker donation that lasts longer.
Oy, you need that blood yourself right now! You're making a whole person from scratch. While running after the first batch! And expecting a blood loss event, even when all goes well. Which, ✨✨✨good witchery it will.
You can probably ask them to put a note in your file to defer calling you until the baby is safely delivered and you've had a few months to recover. And have them take you off the platelet list, because your schedule isn't going to be any less hectic. There's plenty of ways they can use whole blood, like for trauma or surgery or hemorrhage. So the cancer ward's loss is emergency's gain.
I give a regular pint of whole blood (A+, CMV-) because the anticoagulant for platelets makes me ill. And I sign up for the next appointment on my way out, so they don't call except to remind me.
Wrong parent. 😉 I'm not gestating a thing.
Oh well in that case! Donate platelets, it's a 2 hour nap!
