So I talk to some curmudgeon online and decided to share the small things I've done to help stanger just to irritate them and get the idea that I'm making an attempt real world people. I did get an hilarious response like:

-"your one of those affluents with a savior complex thats going to "save the working class" that it was never part of"

  • "Getting off to moral superiority you have no morales or soul you dont care about people you just wana feel cool saying fuck the rich while being borgozie yourself"
  • "your just an edgy college liberal rich kid who thinks they are "winning" right now because your entire life is so empty dry and vapid you need something to feel good about the reality is your so weak pathetic and full of microplastocs and soy you could never amount to anything more than the borgozie"

But it's funny in there desperation you get a sense that you have to help people in specific ways, in specific mental state, and be a certain background.

So what's petty reason makes you a "bad person" for helping people or makes helping people"not count "?

But I would not worry for the petty ones. Sometimes people say this bc they don't want to confront the fact they don't want to help anyone and don't want to be seen as selfish

A genuine not counting reason would be like, it's for setting up a trap?

  • "homeless person, here's a candybar for you"
  • "oh thanks"
  • hides "911 SOMEONE IS TRESPASSING,THE ONE EATING A CANDYBAR"

It seems like you've really got twisted up over somebody making you feel bad. I'd let it go, if I were you. You'll only wind yourself up more.

some dude (or dudette) is living rent free in this guy's mind

Ahhh I'm just having fun trying to document excuses for people to hate on someone helping strangers. I just fascinated with pettiness

[โ€“] nostrauxendar@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well, whatever floats your boat; but I think it's probably not worth your time dude. I'm sorry that somebody made you feel bad for doing something good, have a good eve โœŒ๏ธ

Uhm im fine. The interaction was hilarious on my end. I'm just sharing in the joy of getting petty hate

I used to know someone who believed it was mentally unhealthy to help other people. She believed people help others because they actually want to help themselves. So, the mentally healthy thing to do is to help yourself and not worry about other people. She said her psychologist told her all this.

[โ€“] PixelPilgrim@lemmings.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I heard that expressed as "there's no altruism, people only help to make themselves feel better". sounds like it would be impossible to get through to them if they saying their psychologist gave them that advice

[โ€“] skrlet13@feddit.cl 1 points 2 days ago

When actually, feeling better after doing a good deed is just a nice side effect (and it's ok to enjoy it honestly, life should not be just sacrifices).

[โ€“] Jimmycrackcrack@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It sounds a lot like they took something their psychologist said, in context, misremembered the exact wording and intended meaning, selectively reconstructed it, disregarded the original context and then applied it universally to all people in all situations instead of specifically for her in her particular circumstances as part of a sentence deeply embedded in a lot of conversation that took place before and after to try and help her understand why people act certain ways.

That was my impression, too.

My grandmother would only buy homeless people food if they accepted a bible with it.

"thanks for the napkins". that's nice but its also hilarious

[โ€“] BigBolillo@mgtowlemmy.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Even people who do things wo getting something in return do it for the satisfaction it gives to them, so if you look it that way, there is no real altruism everyone do things to get something at exchange even it being not monetary.

[โ€“] PixelPilgrim@lemmings.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dang didn't expect someone to say that unirinically, people will do things out of principal to help or conviction to help. They can even hate helping other but simple see it as duty that must be done

[โ€“] BigBolillo@mgtowlemmy.org 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yeah I'm not saying feeling good about helping other is bad. But isn't like real altruism exist anyway. IMHO

I'm saying true altruism does exist, but this is gonna be us claiming what goes on in someone's head anytime they help another person

Count to who? Do what makes you feel good, fuck the haters

More like finding why hater say it doesn't count

A list so far for why Helping people doesn't count

  • I get off to feeling morally superior
  • have no morals, be bourgeoisie
  • suspected of being a liberal capitalist
  • don't give them knowledge to help them escape their environment
  • I educated them to stay away from The bourgeoisie
  • feel good about it.

the number of downvotes should give you your answer; it's propaganda coupled with natural human misery that makes trying to help others such a difficult (and sometimes self defeating) task.

[โ€“] PixelPilgrim@lemmings.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I interpreted it as people on lemmy want to be petty and hateful and here I come in being like "look at this dork being petty and hateful" and they side with the dork. but im thinking that people should talk about the things they enjoy or think are good into rage bait for people that don't want to do anything think is positive. we should be celebrating small positive actions more than condemning big negative actions online.

you're on one of the instances that took in the most fleeing redditors and they brought their petty & hateful toxicity with them; i strongly recommend changing instances if you want to get away from most of it.

[โ€“] PixelPilgrim@lemmings.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm probably more toxic than them and I got hate from asking the questions on asklemmy community.

My toxicity was so bad that it generated a sense of solidarity in FOSS developers, specifically dansup.

[โ€“] eldavi@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

the redditors dominated all of lemmy's popular communities (especially asklemmy) and i recommended a different instance so you can see the unpopular communities that don't include their toxicity.

if you're more toxic then them, then you might want to stay where you are.
