Nothing they do or say is in good faith.

They know that there's nothing meaningful to find from such an investigation, they were just demanding it because of the implication and because they can keep pushing conspiracy claims.

But an actual investigation to reveal the nothing is terrible for Republicans, because it cuts short the made up things they've been claiming.

Hence, their only option now is to try and discredit the very thing (and person) that they've been calling for.

There's no shortage of things to make up, it's their biggest strength.

In case you want any more proof Republicans are just manufacturing outrage for the sake of outrage.

“The undersigned request that you provide U.S. Attorney Weiss the full protections and authorities of a special counsel.”

— Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland on September 16, 2022.

“There may be others who would be a worse pick than U.S. Attorney Weiss to be special counsel, but based on the prosecution of Hunter Biden to date, he has got to be close to the worst pick. This is unbelievable.”

— Johnson, in a tweet today.

The lesson, of course, is that nothing will satisfy Republicans short of Garland appointing Trump himself to investigate Biden. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) whined in February about the Justice Department’s failure to appoint a special counsel, before Fox News reported on Friday that he’s among those upset that it actually did, claiming Weiss isn’t the right man for the job. Sen. Graham was pushing for Weiss to become a special counsel as recently as last month.

All they have is persecution complex and grievance.

Many people are wondering what exactly Margie Greene has on her laptop since she's so ffffn obsessed with them and showing harassing nudes of private citizens in Congress. I wonder if it's something prosecutable???

Just asking.

I mean, we have laws against revenge-porn. Maybe something related to that would apply and be enforceable?

I hope so, because the way she is I wouldn't want kids within 1000 feet of her.

*Republicans wanted the idea of a Hunter Biden Special Counsel to raise money

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Republicans really have zero idea on how to govern. It's pretty fucked up.

[–] artisanrox@kbin.social 20 points 1 year ago

They absolutely know this is 1) a waste of federal money, 2) legislatively/bureaucratically harassing a private citizen, 3) trying to upset POTUS.

They know.

They KNOW what not-governing is, and how to do it VERY effectively.

When you don't have any plans to improve the lives of regular Americans, you scream, point, and throw your shit as a distraction.

Click here to see the summaryAttorney General Merrick Garland on Friday named David Weiss, a federal prosector appointed by Donald Trump, as a special counsel tasked with investigating Hunter Biden.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) agreed, telling Weiss he’s “not off the hook” and that this “Friday afternoon gambit is not going to work.” The House Oversight Committee offered a similar take, releasing a statement alleging that the Justice Department was trying to obstruct its work and calling the appointment a “Biden family coverup.”

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) whined in February about the Justice Department’s failure to appoint a special counsel, before Fox News reported on Friday that he’s among those upset that it actually did, claiming Weiss isn’t the right man for the job.

Weiss secured a plea deal from Biden in June, with the president’s son agreeing to cop to two federal misdemeanor charges related to failing to pay his taxes.

Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.) on Thursday basically admitted that they don’t have anything incriminating against Biden, alleging on Fox News that he and his colleagues never claimed money went directly to the president.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) later claimed on Newsmax that the president had taken money before appearing to correct himself and specify that he was talking about Biden’s family.
