Time for some shrooms and a little introspection, maybe a nice cup of tea with a slice of lime.

I had a massive consumption problem. Especially on hobby spending. This year I uninstalled every retail app and unsubscribed from every promotional email. No exceptions. No more notifications about limited time offers, sales, bundles, last chances, etc.

Tell yourself that if you really need it, you'll pay full price for it. If you aren't willing to pay full price for it, then ask yourself if you really need it. Force yourself to log into the site from your browser when you buy it rather than having it be two taps away.

I've also taken a more critical look at the YouTubers I follow to see which ones are spending more time talking about promoted products or the monetary value of things VS their quality and utility.

Almost every interaction on the internet is now designed to separate you from your money. Remember that and you'll realize how much we're being treated like lab rats.

I basically cut my spending in half, which was good because my income was lower this year. Despite that, I was able to save more.

get a hobby and buy things that let you make things. then you get to wake up and admire the things yesterday-you made.

Hey, one week of anticipation to distract from the yawning chasm of darkness is better than nothing.

This is why I play the lottery.

[–] Master@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

Honestly this is true for me too. I could buy something for 50 buck and wait a week in excitement for it to arrive only to abandon it in an hour.

Or I can buy a 3 dollar lottery ticket for the weekend draw and be excited all week only to only lose 3 bucks when I inevitably dont win.

Fuck you brain, You'll never be happy/satisfied! I know your game and ill spend the least amount possible to get you to fuck off for a week!

I'm unemployed now and had to stop but I still want an all sfp+ managed switch and some regular manages switches with sfp+ for my home network. And I actually do lie in bed with electronics before installing them. Its a building up motivation thing

I'm in this comic abd i don't like it

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

abd

Anyway I always scroll down and read through all the comments before I say what someone else probably already said. And you said it :-)

Except I would've said "and" instead of "abd."

I recently discovered fidget toys as a way of slowing my online shopping. Hasn't stopped it, but putting it beside the phone decreased the phone time at least

Don't buy clothes to make yourself happy.

Buy knives to make yourself happy! And then, if you're feeling unhappy, you can go out for a walk with your knife, and find a cool stick, and you can whittle it into a magic wand or a spoon if you want to get really creative, and then you'll feel happy.
