Welcome to a Star Trek community where you’re free to chat and share your opinions about all things Trek!

I want to have a place where fans can come to praise, discuss, and even criticise things in the Star Trek franchise. No show or movie is perfect, and I don't believe people should be silenced for having a dissenting opinion. That being said, there are still a few rules.

Be Nice - No personal attacks. You can disagree with someone's opinion, but it needs to stop there.

No Slurs - This is applicable to ethnicity, religion, gender, or anything else.

No Adult Content - Keep it family friendly.

No Spamming or Trolling - Consistently spamming comments or trolling is just not needed.

Keep Topics Trek Related - This is a Star Trek community, so of course discussion should stay in that area! That means no real world politics.

Red Dwarf Season 1. That counts, right?

Was it Terry Ferrel that was in the pilot episode of US Red Dwarf? It never went anywhere, but I think it was her.

Yes it was!

Working through Enterprise, just finished season 3. So frustrating but have to add it to my list of watched.

I had been listening to a few Trek podcasts and watching along with the episodes they were doing, and one of them should be starting Enterprise soon. I'm debating whether I want to re-watch, it's definitely not my favorite of the shows!

I'm one of the weird ones who liked Enterprise. It is frustrating, and humanity still hadn't "evolved" to their modern Trek persona, but you can see the roots forming in Earth society.

Currently rewatching DS9, just got to the Dominion war.

Fun times ahead! I like the show the whole way through, but it does really take off at that point.

This week I was watching a few of the TAS episodes, and I was also reading through the Star Trek Shipyards books again too.

TAS is often overlooked but there's some really great content in there. I really liked the Megans from Megas-Tu. I feel like they should either be canonically the Q, or a related species similar to the relationship between the Vulcans and Romulans.

Odo finally got what he wanted, remains to be seen how he adjusts to his closer connection with the solids. And some interesting developments for the Klingon empire starting next season. Grew up on TNG, ds9 has been rewarding to discover 30 years too late.

At least you're getting around to it now! I see a lot of people talking about not watching or not liking DS9 when it came out, but coming around to it later.

That's exactly how I was. My first Trek was TNG, and I was hurt when they announced DS9. I felt like they were trying to push out TNG. I mean, they were, but as a kid I didn't understand how all of that worked. I hate I missed out on it back then, because it's a fantastic show.

There was definitely some competition there! My first Trek was TOS (many years after first run!), and when I tried TNG I didn't really like it. I saw people saying it got better after the first few seasons, so I skipped ahead, still felt the same way about it, and ended up quitting. I was thinking that maybe I just wasn't going to like the newer shows, but decided to give DS9 a try. It got me hooked by the first or second episode, and I've been a fan ever since! Later on I did go back to TNG and was able to appreciate it a lot more too.

We will watch Starfleet Academy E1 this Friday, and maybe TNG's First Contact and Insurrection over the weekend. :)

is going to be only available on paramount+?

[–] stargazingpenguin@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

The first episode is currently on YouTube. Not sure if there's a region lock or not.

What are your expectations for Academy? Hopeful? Or do you expect to be watching the car wreck in slow motion?

None at all except for seeing Robert Picardo on screen again. Maybe it's good, maybe it's as terrible as Discovery. Who knows?

I am rewatching remastered TOS (with original visual effects) and currently in mid Season 02. It's fantastic if you don't mind the first half of Season 01.

I prefer the original effects too! I bought the Blu-ray set a while back, and it was definitely a good purchase in my book.
