This is so sad. I can't put into words bis much I hate ai. It's making everything worse in my life. Art, politics, news, talking to friends about their chatgpt enlightenments and now gaming too. I was so looking forward to the frame. :(

I really want a Frame but I want it more for the software. If I could flash the garbage off my Quest 3 and use whatever Valve cooked up I am confident it would be vastly better. The hardware is decent. The operating system is garbage and they keep reducing its functionality every update. A good 70% of what I do with it runs FOSS shit I found on github and dev blogs because something as simple as putting an overlay on top of a fully 3D game is something the geniuses at Meta can't figure out how to do.

I wonder how far they're willing to push the "its just a PC" rhetoric - they might consider releasing a chassis only enthusiast version without RAM and SSD etc. Similar to how Framework has their DIY edition and configurator.

I'm wondering if Gaben could buy a semiconductor foundry and start producing RAM.

Thats a software vendors wet dream - owning the store where people buy your software all the way down to owning the fabs that produce hardware required to play those games.

And we think you’re going to love it.

I figured the SSD was easily accessible but being able to upgrade the RAM was a welcome surprise.

Yeah me too. Was worried it would be like those ryzen ai max or whatever with soldered on stuff.
