Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

We want to make NATO stronger," U.S. Ambassador Matthew Whitaker said in Berlin on Monday. The diplomat also compared the allies to children. "We want you to grow up and become who you can be," he added, addressing European countries.

I'm scared of the sexual implication, considering the alarming number of pedophiles in that administration.

Def sounds like they're making plans for their "allies" to be fucked.

One simple question: Will the US accept losing their hegemonial power when China takes the technological lead?

If the answer is no then wars have to be fought. China has one big ally. Who is going to fight that ally?

The other NATO nations just kicked the US's arse in the latest war games. But that usually happens.

Reservists, no less.

β€œExercise commanders had to ask Finnish reservists, the most formidable Arctic warriors, who were playing the role of invaders in the war games, to go easy on the Americans,” the source said. β€œThe Finns had to be told to stop beating the Americans as it was embarrassing and demoralising for them.”

Some snowflakes still melt in the North Atlantic and Arctic.

Reservists, no less.

The finnish arctic reservists aren't exactly like most reservists though. Finnish reservists are more like "Veterans who can't manage to retire", and anyone who voluntarily lives in the arctic is already certifiably insane.

But that's still funny as hell

Yeah, I think between the performances of England, Finland, and Norway, security in the North Atlantic is best if the US stays away from Greenland.

Edit: I'm also reminded of a story my New Zealand fri nd told me when he had just joined the Australian Airforce as a foot soldier for base defence.

In preparations for Afghanistan, the US would train in Australia with them. He took out an entire group of marines because "You could hear them a mile away". So there he is only a few months in the forces, walking up to a group of marines to tell them they're all dead, they called in an airstrike a few hundred metres out.

"What President Trump is trying to do is to balance and shift the burden of Europe's security to European allies, instead of to American taxpayers, plumbers and hard-working people in my home state of Iowa and other states,"

After the first half I would have commented "coping or lying", but with the second half - yeah, they're definitely lying. It's their default, their standard lying. Publicly saying one thing, and doing entirely unrelated or opposite things.

This should always be called and labelled what it is. Not strange remarks, irritations, or whatever. Manipulative, oppressive lies, manipulation, propaganda. Their lying and doublespeak is just like Putin. And in terms of actions, we must not expect anything else, no more trustworthiness or reliability.

Going from the title only: " That's why Trump is so hell bend in molesting them!".
