Politicians are probably not even aware of it. No tech projects is in Carnry's nation building projects

Can Canada find digital sovereignty in the Fediverse?

Like most complex issues, the solution is never any one single thing.

But making use of the Fediverse can absolutely be one part of a larger plan.

It's nice they talk about ActivityPub but not a single Fedecan mention. Wow. 😄

Some talk about a 3.5K-user social as well as about a proprietary one. Meanwhile we got more than 40K just between lemmy.ca and sh.itjust.works.

Canada can find digital sovereignty if the citizens own the infrastructure. That takes care of the tech side, now human nature...

If it tries, yes.

I highly doubt it will, despite the efforts of a few MPs and MLAs.

If it helps garner any hope, there are former MPs and MLAs on the fediverse, and two candidates in the NDP leadership election have made accounts there and regularly post.

The leader of the BC Green party, I believe her name was Emily Lowan, also has an account.

Elbows Up Digital has a tracker and campaign to get politicians onto the fediverse: https://elbowsupdigital.ca/

The real hope is here among us - in creating and supporting an organic alternative. Only an NDP government may provide real material boost to our efforts that don't steer towards a proprietary, or otherwise for-profit Canadian alternative. Imagine pro-business reps helping non-profit Canadian social instead of a for-profit one. And you bet there will always be for-profits trying to get handouts.
