I feel like on mainstream social media this is done pretty thoughtlessly and it's a norm but on Lemmy, with the much smaller userbase, I kinda felt like... it's like riding on someone else's coat tails? Or is it just me? > > Edit: of course if it's artwork or text, obviously then I'd make it explicitly clear it's not mine but I mean news articles, memes, things like that.

I think that as long as you use the crosspost function, and it’s visible who the OOP is, you are fine. When my posts get crossposted, I take it as a badge of honor.

I never mind when people crosspost things that I post. It's just a way of dispersing content to relevant communities.

Also, the cross-posting feature usually automatically provides a link to the original, so I don't know if there's a need for an etiquette around it.
