This movie was just absurd .. but at the same so much fun. Who doesn’t want to see a Finnish Super Soldier slaughter nazis, and then slaughter more Nazis and top that off with even more slaughtering of Nazis.

If you want to see a guy board a plane in flight using a pick axe… and then.. slaughter more nazis, than this movie for you!

You had me at slaughter nazis.

Loved it, definitely not as "real world" as other one man army movies like John Wick, but that's what makes it good.

One person fighting like that is already ridiculous, might as well make it so the guy can take a few hits too and keep going.

Also, nobody kills the dog.

Omg, the dog was a such great touch.

This has got to be the strangest sequel/prequel to Life Aquatic.

You get the whole movie out of the trailer, really

[–] prenatal_confusion@feddit.org 2 points 4 weeks ago

Yes. But the movie is longer! So so much longer.

Hard to take the pathos some times but if you can get in the mood somewhat funny.

Great movie.

I learned landmines don't need to be stepped on, they can be accidentally headbutt.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 weeks ago

I was astonished, enthralled and loving that whole sequence!

Once you accept that in this world physics don't apply, they're two fantastic action films.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

I will be checking out the sequel this weekend.

I watched this movie to try and get a better grasp on what spoken Suomi sounds like because I'd never heard it before 💀 it was good, but I am a dumbass

If you want to hear Finnish you could try Rare Exports or The Man Without a Past

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

THAT was what I watched next! I love Man Without a Past! I'll do Rare Exports next

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I've watched The Man Without a Past several times, and I find it really interesting how the experience varies depending on the setting.

The first time I saw it in a packed theater, and we were all laughing the whole time. As soon as someone let out a chuckle we were all laughing out loud, like a real life laugh track.

Watching it with two friends at home was less laughing out loud and more chuckling and talking about how weird a movie this is.

Both experiences were enjoyable in their own ways, just different.

If I was to name a polar opposite of a Chris Tucker comedy it would be this film.

Have you seen any of the other films that director did? I read it was part of like a 3 part series that was to showcase vibes and art in Finland

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

That is unfortunately the only one I've seen.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Same, I just got stoked when the comm mentioned one of the few foreign films I've seen. Gonna build that list though

I'd also like to recommend Fallen Leaves, the latest Aki Kaurismäki film. Very Finnish, very excellent.
