I feel like the ink defense might have been a clue that the octopus wasn’t in the mood to be manhandled.
It thought it was being attacked, inked as some do, then tried to get away when he grabbed it. It's natural response is to then grab and sucker to anything and hold on.
Not seen any evidence that this is a research diver, and the behavior seems to prove he's not.
As a diver, fuck this dude. You don't touch wildlife while diving. If it's ugly leave it alone, if it's pretty leave it alone, if it's unusual leave it alone. They teach everyone this and other divers will call you out on doing this shit.
