So are 50% of RAM processors going away too?

the glut of data center hardware pulls will be... glorious.

Going broke just in time for the rich to buy them up rock bottom prices so they can run a simulation of their consciousness and live forever. All they need now is a way to puppet bodies from their data centre minds something like Idk neurolink?

Will the simulation be them, now it won't but even in the future I doubt it. Certainly something like you might go on, something other people can not distinguish from you but you will die and somewhere deep down you will know the copy is just a ghoulish pretence. And the natural extension is a future population of dead copies of people talking about dead activities while our machines explore the universe in ways we hoped we would.

I highly doubt their is anything limiting consciousness to biological life the materialist would say that consciousness is build from a sufficiently complex combination of dead matter and unless we are to adopt some form of spirit or higher power I don't see how you can argue otherwise.

If its you or just an indistinguishable copy really depends on your interpretation of star trek teleporters. Functionally I don't see the distinction as important. Quacks like a duck etc etc is a duck for all functional purposes.

I agree with you tho in this distinction but cannot find a rational argument to justify it. I fear death yet fear that the very mechanism to cheat death is death itself.

Does this mean RAM gets cheaper?

[–] gbuttersnaps@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago

I think it might actually, the Chinese consumer ram market just dropped by 20% recently, hopefully that percolates elsewhere as well. Most articles are saying it's a combo of data centers being canceled/delayed and large companies like OpenAI not following through on bullshit statements they've made like "buying 40% of the world's available ram"
