/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

This has been my favorite thing about rewatching TNG. The show has reached its rhythm where it's regularly in dialogue with itself about media and politics of the 90's. I get to keep doing that stupid excited Leonardo DiCaprio point every time I see something that flew over my head when I was a child.

Can somebody explain to me, what WAS The Next Generation? It ran for so long and provided so much intermittent work for a-listing actors. Was appearing as a plot-centric guest a form of slumming it? Or was getting to deliver a line as a nameless ensign a momentous way for new actors to try and get in to the business?

Ah yes, seasons 6-7. Where they tried to make the show "Pop" and ran out of ideas.

Of course they did die hard. They also had PULSE POUNDING ABSAILING ACTION with SAFETY GEAR. (Chain of Command)

The less said about the ghost fucking autopsy hobbyist Crusher the better.

those two epsiodes are funny. But they are also shit. Go watch the awful things with gusto and get entertained.

For Famke Janssen, she was just branching away from modeling. Her appearance in s5e21 "The Perfect Mate" helped get her role in Goldeneye as Xenia Onatopp a few years later.

And then they worked together, without sexual tension fortunately, on X-Men

[–] dalekcaan@feddit.nl 6 points 2 days ago

That is fortunate. Onatopp was... a lot.

Famke Janssen
on X-Men

It's a weird one, for sure.

"Let's create a species whose women can charm any male, then have her attempt to seduce Picard over and over again." - Dick Berman

There's some fun moments, though, like Worf in Ten Forward or Riker's "I'll be in holodeck 3 if anyone needs me."

Also note the re-use of their makeup transferred over to the Trill on DS9.

Bro you can't just blame him for the horny shit. Star Trek has always been horny thanks to Roddenberry.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Understandable, but he'd already passed by the time of that episode. The proverbial torch had been passed between sticky hands.

God damn it. Well keep us informed of insights.

As for guest appearances, people loved trek and were willing to do it. Just like real scientists in BBT (musk doesn't count).

I could see that. I want to believe dressing up as an alien to talk about galactic-micron phaserzorps for an episode is a fun thing that people look forward to.
