I’m genuinely baffled that this is legal.

It's what happens when you privatize necessary utilities. It will happen with water in a lot of areas as well.

Gotta be rich to live in Tahoe these days. If anyone can get something changed, it's inconvenienced rich people.

There is no way this doesn’t impact locals that live there full time the most though. They need power all year and also pay utilities.

Someone's gotta work the restaurants and open up the tourist locations

The only locals left are firmly part of the gentry. Real people were priced out nearly 20 years ago. What's really going to fuck these people is the loss of tourism thanks to fuel. People aren't driving up into the mountains with $12/gallon gas, and planes are less and less feasible by the day. Those "locals" are going to starve economically. Good riddance. The Sierra Nevada mountains would do well with less people.

Just shop around for a power company. Yeah.

looks like a good time to invest in extension cord manufacturing.

Wonder if the California residents are isolated from the problem more-so than the Nevada residents?

The local utility should put batteries on everyone’s home and use them as a virtual power plant.

Think about how many of those homes are empty most of the time, barely using any energy.

And improve the value of the homes at no cost to the homeowners? They could never.

To quote capitalism "skill issue"

Fuck we are so far AWAY from solving these issues

I wonder if we're gonna find out how flammable these days centers are due to this. I struggle to imagine any jury member could be pulled from their power deprived homes and then convinced to convict.
