A suspect who shot at a White House checkpoint was killed in an exchange of fire with Secret Service agents on Saturday evening, officials have confirmed.

The BBC's US media partner CBS has named the suspect as Nasire Best, a 21-year-old man who was known to the protection agency and had a documented history of mental health conditions.

Is the White House now considered a bad neighborhood?

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 15 points 6 days ago

"Can't have shit on the North Lawn."

Trump said that he made DC so safe.

We got the worst assassins known to man

[–] IAmYouButYouDontKnowYet@reddthat.com 34 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's because it's theater.

This, so much this. It’s fucking false flag bullshit

Another staged event for the sick lazy pedo using the pathetic gun laws and the piss poor healthcare system in the USA. Best should be in a hospital and not roaming the streets with a firearm.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Just a thought, and no less nefarious for it, but I wonder if some of these are less full staging and known potential threats they purposely ignore and allow to happen but are ready to make sure it doesn’t go to far. The press conference one was way too comfortable.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Yes, it is another way to look at it. Best was arrested by the US Secret Service in June 2025 for a similar attempt and if the WH is surrounded by facial recognition, they could observe his approach and wait for the right moment.

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

These events have become rather common, I can think of at least five since Trump's term began.

They get less press than Trump posting a pooping meme... so, what's the motivation for the staging? A paragraph at HuffPo?

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

An attempt to win sympathy and enforce more draconian laws. Altona Bloody Sunday was conducted by the Nazis in 1932.

[–] gh0stb4tz@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Is Trump in the running for most attempts on a president’s life yet? I feel like the number is getting up there.

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 25 points 6 days ago (4 children)

I guess there have been 8 trump assassination attempts total.

So far, there have been 7 school shootings in 2026 alone.

There have been over 130 mass shootings in the US so far this year.

The fascist child rapist is just experiencing what America has become. I'd rather a cheeseburger take him out instead of violence, but he's gonna be a martyr either way. Maga chuds are gonna get really fucking weird about his death. Just you wait. He'll be their patron saint.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I want him to live long enough to completely fuck Republicans in the midterms.

Obama had 11 attempts.

This one would make for 4 supposed attempts on the pedophile felon traitor's worthless life.

Although, quite curiously this regime has already stopped manufacturing their brainless hysteria about the previous ones.

Other than of course their expected droolingly stupid lies designed to further the ever ballooning illegal construction theft of the bunker to hide mr. cadet bone spurs mcdraft-dodging little coward bitch.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 22 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I have no trust in the Regime. It is a coinflip whether it is a false flag or real, and honestly, I wouldn't mind it if Agent Blood Orange becomes a reality.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Really, he did say he couldn't go to his kid's wedding because he's gonna get killed, like this was a scheduled shooting.

Is it too much to ask for some competence?

[–] YoureHotCupCake@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If we were a competent nation we wouldn't be in the mess to begin with.

As the old saying goes, if you want something done right...

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world 5 points 5 days ago

And Trump immediately renews calls for his ballroom.

I hope that monstrosity never gets built, and he has to spend his entire presidency staring at a big muddy hole, like the slumlord he is.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Who would be surprized if the shooter was a MAGA hat?

[–] RockBottom@feddit.org 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's the US, what did they expect?

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Shootings. Sadly, the average school shooter is more successful.

Probably just acorns falling

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world 6 points 6 days ago (2 children)

What's this supposed to distract us from? I've lost track.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 12 points 6 days ago

This wasn't an assassination attempt. No political targets were anywhere near by, let alone Trump. This was a mentally ill man who committed suicide-by-cop.

[–] FudgyMcTubbs@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

This one is probably intended to secure the ballroom/bunker funding that is stalled in Congress.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world 7 points 6 days ago

That ballroom needs to remain a hole, as long as he's president, like the slumlord he has always been. He turned the White House into the ugliest ghetto in DC, that's where he can spend his presidency, looking at a muddy hole.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Watching the coverage, apparently someone pulled a gun close to the White House and got taken down by Secret Service.

One bystander was also injured, but it's unclear if it was by the perpetrator or the Secret Service.

[–] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 days ago

Based on the quote from the SS, I'm guessing they shot the bystander. If they were shot by the suspect then they'd say so, this is how cops talk to the media when they fuck up to frame the conversation.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Pro-gun + Kleptocracy is an unwise mix.
