No! No it is not! What is wrong with you!? An 8 year old is a child. That's on the adults raising the child, not the child.
As an 8 year old child I had a brain and some agency over myself. Not all is on parents.
That is almost always correct, but I think in this case a future astronaut would have been the kind of kid to say no, regardless of what their parents are doing.

When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut. Then I learned you need to join the military and be in peak physical condition. So I decided to be an office worker instead.
Then ChatGPT stole My job. I guess I should have had lower expectations.
