I'll go first:

The Voyager two-parter "Year of hell" is considered one of the strongest stories in the series, and I'd presume ranks pretty high in the entire franchise. But it's entirely rubbish, of course, because even across 2Γ—45 minutes it only depicts 257 days.

We were promised a full year of hell, where are the last 108 days (109 in case of a leap year)?! Did they plan a three-parter but cut costs to afford an even tighter catsuit for Jeri Ryan?

I'm outraged by this glaring oversight and can never watch another Trek episode with the same suspension of disbelief, [edited for brevity]

Just kidding of course, loved rewatching the EPs the other day πŸ™‚ What absolutely stick-in-the-mud killjoy kvetching can you all think of to ruin a Trek episode?

Bonus points for being more ridiculous than whatever Youtubers du jour come up with πŸ€£πŸ––

The urgency in The Measure of a Man makes no sense. The judge should simply pause the transfer order while the question of Data's personhood is resolved, if necessary by a higher court months or years later.

Right, when has any credible court system been in such a rush to try a case that's philosophical at best, and could set a dangerous precedent at worst? If any old toaster gets to claim personhood, you'll have holograms filing for copyright over fictional works within a decaβ€” oh.

In real life (even plus a couple hundred years) they would be way past Nemesis, and Data would be dead* before it would make the court.

"Even with the break between seasons, it was only well into part two of The best of both worlds that I realised they had cast the same actor as Capt. Picard and Locutus. Terrible artistic choice, very confusing"

β€” no one, ever.

Harbinger is the worst episode of ENT. The captain and the alien of the week are maybe 6 minutes of the episode. The rest is a bunch of bullshit with resolving the conflicts in the crew that had been brewing all season.

Only saving grace is the fight scene, but then the macho American space marine gets schooled by lieutenant mister bean? Lolwut

What the hell do they think this is, Hamlet, Gone With the Wind, Ruggles of Red Gap? It’s a goddamned space western, aliens in rubber masks, you know the drill!

"Resolving conflicts that have been brewing all season"? Serialisation is against Roddenberry's intentions!

πŸ˜‚ I wish we all could have your restraint.

...Now, thank you for starting chapter one of my introduction to the Star Trek Enterprise episode "Dear Doctor"...

Is this even possible?

<watches Tiktok for 5 seconds>

Oh my, I stand corrected.

[–] haverholm@kbin.earth 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm old, I didn't even consider TikTok.

TBF, my dumb take on "Year of hell" could've probably easily have been a talking point on some neckbeard's YT channel. The difference is, I realised it was stupid and offered it for a laugh instead of leveraging it toward the cancellation of Star Trek...

Or worser still, making more of it, using AI rather than "plot" or "characters".
