Satrapi’s husband the producer, actor, and screenwriter Ripa died on April 8, 2025.“
I’ve heard of this with elderly couples but not much with people her age. This is incredibly sad. RIP.
This isn't Star Wars. She didn't die of sadness.
My heart goes out to her, though. Horrible events do indeed give us that reverse placebo effect. It can worsen or create problems that are very real.
I think it must be somewhat euphemistic for taking her own life. Doesn't mean it isn't true, just not in quite the same way.
56 is way too young.
Gonna have to (re)watch Persepolis now.
I watched it for the first time only two weeks ago. It was an incredible watch.
I'm really glad I watched it, because it gave me a much more human view of Iran and its people. Satrapi is just one person, of course, so the perspective that Persepolis is only the perspective of one person (though I think that this is why it's such a strong and compelling piece of art). However, watching it helped me to ground the grief I feel at the plight of the Iranian people in something more concrete and compassionate than a nebulous sense of geopolitical dread.
That is terribly sad. Persepolis is a great comic book and film.
She was so amazing, such a huge loss, and way too young.
