Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. (If you're only using an excerpt from an article that's otherwise not about LAMF, you can use the quote in the title.) Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.

Bryan José Rojas Galofre wanted to give his wife a lovely honeymoon to see the beach for the first time and perhaps a glimpse of President Donald Trump, whom she supports.

Their January 2025 road trip from Wisconsin to Miami, however, turned into a nightmare, according to the couple: Rojas, a Venezuelan immigrant whose wife and young children are U.S. citizens, was detained following a stop at a Trump hotel security checkpoint.

He spent more than three months in ICE custody in Florida. Rojas also faced accusations of gang affiliation; he says he feared being deported to El Salvador and lost his stable job and work permit. The family says they’ve lost their house and car, had to deplete Rojas’ 401(k) and are in debt.

“In the end, it was a bad decision,” Rojas, 34, said

“I’m his fan. I believe Trump is a good president,” she said. However, Zaragosa noted this political loyalty co-exists with the disappointment she feels over the months her husband spent in detention.

“What he is doing to migrants isn’t fair,” Zaragosa said of the president. “What happened to my family wasn’t fair.”

I'm so glad she experienced what she supported. Too bad she didn't really learn anything from it. Anyway....

What happened to my family wasn’t fair

Haha

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 minutes ago

"Wasnt fair?" more like it is what you ask trump to do, you wernt specific with your WISH.

The only moral abortion is my abortion

The fact that this dumb shit still supports him even after all the shit that they've gone through means I have absolutely no fucking symphony for these morons.

Holy shit, dude thought he was part of the in group 😂. How does a person become that oblivious/ brainwashed? Astounding.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 22 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Social Media firehose coupled with vague fill in the blank populist rhetoric.

It's an effective combination.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Don't forget decades of defunding education!

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

It doesn't really matter honestly. In order to be immune to this type of thing you have to either be off social media or constantly thinking critically. It's impossible to think critically all the time so the one way too win is by not playing.

Here I am telling you this while on social media...

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 1 points 9 hours ago

constantly thinking critically

And people still call me weird for doing so.

He was seeking political asylum the second he hit US soil, and based on context clues in the article, he has gang tattoos. He allegedly got these tattoos when he was a kid and didn't know what they meant but the meaning was personal. I'm not pro Trump any which way but this is extremely sus. I'm sure he had a tough life and I'm not here to judge but I wanted to see if anyone else picked up on that.
Getting married quick and switching his asylum application for a family one asap is another thing to look at critically. Did he marry with intent? If he did, he obviously couldn't go against her political beliefs and if you're working that hard to stay in the country, you're going to take bae wherever she wants I guess. Also you're crossing state lines with an airsoft gun and a grinder without full citizen status, its even harder to look at you with pity. There was no self preservation instinct at all for this man. Normally, no matter who, I get depressed when they get picked up by ICE. No human, never ever no matter what, deserves that. But this time I'm just confused at his whole chain of events that led to him being put in this situation.

[–] breezeblock@lemmy.ca 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

The tattoo is pictured in the article. That is *not * a gang tattoo. If anything is (Chinese) cultural appropriation.

[–] DrSoap@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

You could be right. The article was worded with intent and it definitely felt like tiptoeing. I don't know a darn thing about tattoos and even less about gangs, all I know was what I read, and it was odd. Maybe the writer intentionally was trying to cast doubt on him? I wish we had a gang tattoo expert here.

[–] breezeblock@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Tren de aragua never used tattoos. Other gangs have stopped using tattoos due to ease of identification.

[–] DrSoap@lemmy.world 1 points 43 minutes ago

That's legit common sense. Excellent point!!

“I believe Trump is a good president” … but what he did specifically to “my family” is bad… chefs kiss level of schadenfreude this morning - topped off with a little Republican my abortion is the only good abortion level of hypocrisy.

What will it take for these morons to realize the unique horribleness of this administration?

When you can’t change these people after getting hit in the face with a brick - you have to admit - Hope for progress should be muted

[–] breezeblock@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 hours ago

This political bloc preys on particularly stupid people

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 59 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

"We're innocent people that got caught in the dragnet, but it'll work out and the dragnet is good" - every deluded Republican voter that still doesn't realize this is exactly what they want.

"I never thought the leopards would eat MY face"

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 7 minutes ago

and then say" hopefully the leapards would stop eating my face, and eat someone else, and dont eat my whole face"-magat.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 26 points 18 hours ago

"But I mean I'm still going to support the leopard, obviously"

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

What will it take for these morons to realize the unique horribleness of this administration?

Nothing. Their egos are "protecting" them from having to admit that they support the man/movement that ruined their family's life

Sorry dude maybe you shouldn't have picked such a shitty wife

“I’m his fan. I believe Trump is a good president,” she said. However, Zaragosa noted this political loyalty co-exists with the disappointment she feels over the months her husband spent in detention.

For sure, if I was detained and my spouse said this, I would be starting the divorce process. Same if I did it to them, I would expect them to divorce me. The choice between supporting a politician and supporting your spouse should be the easiest out there, and yet she failed that simple test.

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 1 points 7 hours ago

Hey, don't be so Puritan to slave contractors!
Zaragosa probably married Rojas for the fact he can clean, repair, and afford trips to luxurious beaches!

Wait deathcamps does them apart, does that mean Zaragosa can enslave another Venezolano‽

Watch them both vote Republican in '26 and '28.

[–] edgarde@lemmy.world 24 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

“I don’t think anything bad about the president. It wasn’t his fault; it was our fault.".

She'll turn on her husband before she turns on the president.

In her desperate attempt to help her son, she contacted a purported attorney via social media who, she alleges, turned out to be an impostor. “He would answer all my messages and ask me for various things; I would send him the documents he requested — I even sent him about $2,000. But then, all of a sudden, I never heard from him or his associates again,” she said.

They are desperate, powerless, and willing to part with their money. I bet Eric Trump invests in a piece of this action.

[–] Dead_or_Alive@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Bold of you to assume there will be elections in 26 and 28

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

There will be, the same way Russia still has elections. It's manufactured consent

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 58 points 17 hours ago

These fucking morons are just completely detached from reality.

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 36 points 16 hours ago

Leopards be feastin.

“I’m his fan. I believe Hitler is a good Führer,” she said. "What he is doing to Jews isn’t fair."

Let me introduce: Association of German National Jews

(Spoiler: they got their faces eaten in 1935)

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 6 minutes ago

or the lgtbq+ for trump/conservatives.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 16 hours ago

The husband is just as responsible for the situation as his wife was. He should have left her and run the moment she showed support for the guy who hates non-whites. That could've happened well before they had kids, it's not like it was a secret or anything. Pretending he wasn't talking about them is just delusional thinking.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 22 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

The Venezuelan man was really selfless and thoughtful here... sucks that he married and had kids with a moronic wife who can somehow still continue to excuse the pain she helped caused them all.

[–] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 18 points 16 hours ago

For the most part I have little sympathy for people who married Trump supporters. The Trump supporter likely had a lot of terrible behavior towards people in her day to day life and her husband just didn't care about that because it didn't directly affect him and their relationship. Now it has.

[–] metermatic26@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago

Votes were cast, faces were eaten.
