/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I do remember the line from the BSG Miniseries where they are talking about caclulating their first jump. Something like, "If we are off by even a few percentage points, we could end up in the middle of the sun!" and I was thinkijng, "Like, you'd be off in your calculations by a whole percentage point?" I mean, I know there's no networked computers allowed on the galactica, but a calculator should be able to handle it.

Edit: Though, now in retrospect, I imagine a first jump calculation would involve estimating mass, which is going to be imprecise. Probably after your first jump you can infer your mass from your location.

That's, um... a very specific date in the near future. Care to elaborate?

While I'm there, let's watch the entire 4 years of the travels of NX-01

Wasnt it drifting in phased state and then the engine broke and the rematerialized. Its a natural cavern so that's why its materialised partially in solid rock.

Based on how Riker described it, it sounded like it was already broken, and it was phasing in and out, kinda like a flickering light, and stopped “flickering” once it was partially inside of the asteroid, where it finally materialized. This was after Riker and Pressman had left in an escape pod.

Frankly, when I watched this episode when it first aired, it really disturbed me.

The well preserved bodies from the vacuum really sold the creep factor.

still not as creepy as this shot from TNG - S04E25 - "In Theory"

I think I might actually have screamed when I first saw that (I was 12). and it definitely gave me nightmares.
