Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

They could also have some Nuremberg style tribunal for Israel, that would also be appropriate,.more so if you ask me, Israel has done far worse things than Russia

War crimes are not a competition. The actions of both Israel and Russia are crimes against humanity and should be treated and prosecuted as such.

[–] thepig@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 week ago

True, but still there are levels to the atrocities

But only one will be proscecuted in a made up tribunal instead of through international courts. And only one will not receive sanctions.

The mask is off and the whole world can see the theater.

There's an arrest warrent out for Netanyahu by the ICC.

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That arrest warrant is worth less than toilet paper. Many countries have just ignored it and invited him anyway

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That's not the fault of the ICC but of the countries that by doing so undermine and refuse to recognize the ICC.

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago

Exactly, that's why it's worthless

None of these Epstein fucks are ever going to come to justice. EVER.

[–] thebestaquaman@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

It's not. It severely limits the number of countries Netanyahu can travel to without being arrested at the border. Sure, several countries have explicitly stated that they won't honour the warrant, and that severely hurts those countries diplomatic capital. At the same time, Netanyahu (and others) are among very few political leaders that have the risk of arrest hanging over them if they travel to most countries.

Well, the ICC and ICJ are more than capable of handling most war crimes, including the ones committed by Israel. This tribunal would exist to fill a hole in the jurisdictions of the international courts: To prosecute the crime of aggression. Russia attacked first. It's incredibly clear cut. Israel and Gaza is more complicated. Here we got a circle of escalating violence. That makes it a lot harder to prosecute them for this specific crime.

[–] thepig@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The violence has been one sided for a long time now, and also the numerous cases of Israel targeting civilians and inhumane treatment of prisoners. All well documented, nothing complicated

[–] Vittelius@feddit.org 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm not defending Israel, I'm really not. All I'm saying is that the Israeli war crimes fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC and ICJ. You don't need a dedicated tribunal to prosecute them. The same is true for Russia, except for this one crime that they definitely committed and Israel maybe didn't commit. This one crime and only this crime needs a dedicated tribunal. That doesn't make the other crimes any less serviere. It just means that the international community made a mistake and forgot one war crime when setting up the international courts.

[–] thepig@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Ok ok, thanks for the clarification, I wrongfully thought you meant their crimes were less severe

[–] binux@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago

The Nuremberg trials were infamously ineffectual (even arguably more performative than anything) and led to many high-level Nazi officials being given extremely lax sentences or even being acquitted. I hope this is more of a basic analogy than an actual example they would wish to follow.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Good start. Now do USA and Israel so we know you're serious about justice.

Have they forgotten that, in order to write history, they have to win?

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I always hated that quote. The losers of wars write plenty of history about it.
