Smart glasses equipped with cameras, microphones, and AI are a creeping privacy and security nightmare, prompting backlash.

And rightfully so.

Down with camera glasses!

Now back to regularly scheduled perv camera phone existence.

I remember a long time ago I did buy camera glasses in 2016 and they were 720p (allegedly) but were 100% disconnected and you needed a cable to get your stuff out of there.

Why did I get them? Because they were a good way of being a tourist and recording things from your POV without a camera. Also I bought many for a spy themed evented I was attending.

These are just terrifying.

Oh - I love this angle!!!

Spread the word bros! I'll only call them pervert glasses from now on

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 2 points 17 hours ago

I’ve never met a pervert that didn’t embrace that name.

Surveillance glasses.

(If "pervert" is too much in a discussion)

second comment: I wouldn't doubt that there's a large percentage of perverted individuals using smart glasses, every time there's a technological advanced way to capture images of people without their consent, there will be creeps and perverts using that technology for fucked up purposes and if they know they can get away with it they'll do it. Best example, the police emergency response system went down and they couldn't take 911 calls for like 6 hours or something like that and my fiance and I were at the beach and some random guy with a telescopic lens starts taking pictures of kids on the beach. There was an area wide or I think it was actually the whole state that went down for a few hours might've been 3 hours but still!!!! The moment that emergency text went out to everyone who was able to get it , the moment you saw crime rise for 3 hours. I saw 4 drug deals and that creep taking pictures of kids when I was at the beach because people knew they could get away with it.

I'll take shit that didn't happen for 47 cents, Trebek

[–] Hueristic_Autistic@lemmy.world 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Was Revere beach in Massachusetts fuck I forget if it was two years ago by now but the police weren't able to respond to anything for like 3 hours. We got the text at the beach. I had to look it up I'm a pothead with a fucked up sense of time. It happened in June of 2024 for 2 hours. I'll never forget it because it sociologically showed that if people genuinely think can get away with crime, they'll attempt a crime.

You know what there should be a pull-down menu option on all phones called, "Radius" and it puts up a censored image over you like a box or a blur that can not be removed by any smart glasses wearer but can be removed by LEO's if needed. It could use the compasses proximity sensor and identify smart glasses in the area. Could be a nice addition to Android or Graphene.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Better yet the glasses should just blur any human or replace them with an avatar.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 hours ago

That’s impossible. The information is already gathered, you could just be sending a beacon out saying “please don’t process this”.

What’s to stop them from ignoring that?
