Complain to your local government. Yes, many websites are guilty of surveillance capitalism themselves and are lobbying for it, but the recent push was largely in response to new surveillance laws passed by governments under various guises, such as protecting the youth.
My government are pushing for this stuff though.
Which is why I am here now instead of on reddit where I got fed up of being asked to submit for facial and ID scans. Fuck that! I have seen some of my comments online, there is no way I want my ID permanently attached to that.

I found out that when confronted with ID surveillance I don't really want to visit that site after all.
Companies keep pushing security onto the user at the same time as demanding more personal data.
They can suck my....
they have data breaches all the time, if they don't outright sell it, even to ICE. It's insane if them to try and frame this as secure
I remember a few years back facebook had me 'verify' my account by sending them a copy of my ID. I sent them a stock image of a random dude flipping the bird and my 'ID' got accepted.
For a shady steam keys reselling site, I once sent a picture of my id with literally everything blacked out but my name (they had that from my credit card), and it got accepted too
Instagram tried that with me a few years ago too and I just made a new account lol
They need it to profile new models for their trump island in Albania

good luck verifying it with the South African department of home affairs
it takes months to get an actual government ID issued

The only other way is sketchy P2P trade sites where you have to trust the person at the other end.
Using Local Monero (Iβm assuming what you are referring to) is fairly safe in low amounts ($50)
