I just got done installing OpenMW and setting up the I Heart Vanilla mod list. I also added Daisy's Lua Multimark to help with getting around a little better.

My only real requirement is that I want my first character to use spears as a primary weapon, because I miss them so much when I play other Elder Scrolls. Medium armor synergises well with spears and Bonemold looks sweet, so I'm leaning towards that, or maybe a medium/heavy mix later when carry weight's less of a problem.

Other than that, I'm open to suggestion on race, the rest of the build, and factions to seek out. What do y'all think is the most fun for someone coming back to Vvardenfell after so long?

House Telvanni is my favorite faction from any Elder Scrolls game. All of the higher ups are insane in a different way, and you can essentially do whatever you want including killing them with little consequence. If you plan to be chaotic evil/neutral, definitely play through their questline.

I also really like the daedric quests, which are very easy to overlook if you don't wander around or seek them out intentionally.

There are also cool easter eggs to find, including Maiq the Liar, the Captains Guide to the Fishy Stick, Eltonbrand, the Mudcrab Merchant, and Indy's Note to name a few big ones. There are so many easter eggs in Morrowind and it's a lot of fun to seek them all out

Generalist builds work well in morrowind. If you care about easier traversal, athletics, acrobatics, mysticism and alteration are all great picks. If you want to make the game easier, you could also take alchemy and/or restoration. Other than that, you can just take anything. Morrowind is one of my favorite games, but it is not a hard game. Just make sure your weapon of choice is a major skill if you want to hit anything.

I also highly recommend exploring tamriel rebuilt and project cyrodiil. They are massive, well made, and lore-friendly. I enjoy a lot of that content more than the base game, honestly.

I'd go argonian agility / endurance build w spear and medium armor

Anything particular to be aware of in regards to Argonian equipment restrictions? I know my beloved Boots of Blinding Speed will be sadly out of reach, so maybe I'll want Resto and/or enchanting to make it up with my own Fortify Speed?

Anyone know if Unarmored would be applying for feet and head (unless I find an open helm)?

Based on the notes on the wiki, sounds like yes to your unarmored question. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Unarmored

House Redoran is tailored to those skills

Argonian if you're going medium/spear. It fits well imo.

Let's be honest, whatever you try to do, you'll really end up being a stealth archer.
