Like if you're afraid a convenience store will be robbed but you go there every day. Or you're afraid of sidewalk cracks but walk everywhere.

I refuse to be homeless. I've always been telling myself that the day I become homeless and so many bills pile up, is the day I truly die. I'm pretty resourceful, but there's not an awful lot that I can think of as there to do if I become homeless, other than become a petty criminal, but then I'd only be wasting time in jail and being treated like a nobody in the justice system.

Being assaulted or even murdered.

I regularly live with this fear to the point that I don't leave the house by myself.

Getting hit by a car or stabbed by a methhead. Or getting hit by a car driven by a methhead who then gets out and stabs me.

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 4 points 16 hours ago

Getting attacked by a crazy druggie.

I dont care how much it costs I just need a political party to come up with a solution for this shit. I'm down for any solution at this point.

That people are only pretending to be nice to me but are secretly mad at me behind my back.

I went through an incident where the people I thought were my closest friends, weren't, and it fucked me up pretty bad.

I’m constantly afraid that I’ll get fired. Not for anything in particular, just that it’ll happen randomly and without notice… which has happened to me several times over the last decade or so. I hate living in an ‘at will’ state.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 22 points 1 day ago

Other drivers. For god sakes. I live in the Washington DC/Baltimore MD area and while driving around here has always been a lot like Death Race 2000, it has gotten absolutely insane since covid.

Traffic signs are clearly just suggestions, people have no issues just blocking the thruways in parking lots. At least once a week I will just barely miss being in a fender bender.

[–] Sybilvane@lemmy.ca 2 points 14 hours ago

Centipedes. They're everywhere. I get jump scared by one at least once a week.

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 4 points 18 hours ago

Dropping phone in toilet

[–] akunohana@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 20 hours ago

Risking being forced into social situations that I don't understand or don't like or that trigger my self destruct mechanisms.

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That someone is mad at me and I don't even know I've wronged them.

[–] AskewLord@piefed.social 1 points 22 hours ago

what if the wrong you did them was completely fictional and a fantasy in their head?

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That I've forgotten some critical information that will completely ruin things for me in the future. E.g. going to an exam without my student ID. Forgetting I have urgent surgery today. Etc. The worst part is I'm usually right lol my memory is extremely bad

[–] Suck_on_my_Presence@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

I forgot I had a meeting with my boss on a Monday a few weeks back and it almost cost me my job.

Ugh, I hate that forgetful feeling.

[–] MrOtingocni@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago

That I am going to lose my fucking mind. I have untreated psychiatric issues so it's not only possible but at some point probable. Every day feels like a roll of the dice but I white knuckle through.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Disappointing others.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago

The two most dangerous hours a day are going to and from work. I'm just one screwed up human away from death every day. Chances are there are a lot of them that are screwed up.

[–] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

that the constant anxiety and panic attacks are just permanent now, and I will keep losing my grip until I'm living curled up in the fetal position as everything goes to literal shit around me

[–] Suck_on_my_Presence@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago

Hang in there, pal! I hope you can find something that helps

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 2 points 18 hours ago

I'm agoraphobic. It's practically impossible living your life without leaving your house though.

Even taking out the trash or checking my mailbox can be an ordeal. I'd much rather have a regular phobia, like spiders, snakes, clowns, or something easier to avoid.

[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I speak about half an hour before I think. I've fucked up more times than I care to count doing this.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

My most common are also my greatest.

Fear of death of my parents.

The risk of harm to my kids.

[–] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 3 points 21 hours ago

The risk of harm to my kids.

Most common fear by far.

oh everyday i have to be on guard some nutcase will come up to me and try to start a fight with me because of my dog, my hat, my shirt, a book i might have on me etc. mostly verbal, but a few times they straight up threw a punch or tried to kick me. around '22 this started happening to me about once every 2-3 months.

nobody ever did any of this to me until the past 3-4 years, post pandemic craziness. it's not homeless people, it's usually yuppies or trust fund baby types who hate me because I look 'weird' because I'm not wearing designer clothes like them. it's weird and it's always that type of person, it's never like a normal unassuming looking person, it's someone who has a 'identity' to broadcast and seems to think I'm threatening them by existing in the same space as them, like apparently me waiting for a coffee or a take out on the sidewalk 'offends' them.

funny thing is stuff like this also happened to me in college, from the same type of people. i would be like chilling on a bench reading a book and campus security would come up and said i was reported for threatening people and making them uncomfortable and i'd be like 'what people' and there would be nobody around and they'd just be walk off because well, it was some idiot who felt 'attacked' by me minding my own business.

That my wife will die and I will have to support by kid through their grief while grieving.

[–] W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 14 hours ago

I get that one. Happened to a family member.

Rare, but I get it:

[–] zeroclue@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

I always assume that other people have no control over their vehicle and that they will eventually kill me, especially when I'm on foot and someone backs up or drives slowly towards me. Very irrational fear but I do not trust people in tanks.

I'm a manager for a pest control branch. Mine is someone calling out. Particularly on a Monday. Seriously. That and the sales guys texting me that they all of a sudden decided to go to a different area without telling me beforehand and I have no one near there. Both of these happen all the time but are beyond my control.

Those are just work ones.

For everyday things, I have this crazy tradition that sometimes I procrastinate going somewhere because I have to leave at exactly the right time to avoid a car accident or something like that. Almost like I have convinced myself that the reason I wait a few minutes before walking out the door is because I am waiting for what I perceive to be the perfect time so that the one crazy person driving out there will have either gotten past where I'm going or I will somehow avoid them. I hope that makes sense.

Being hit by a car while I'm riding my bike to or from work

[–] disregardable@lemmy.zip 1 points 20 hours ago

People speaking to me. I wish they would stop.

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Edit - sorry it double posted for some reason

[–] W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 14 hours ago

Yeah, I have that fear too.

[–] TheWeirdestCunt@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

I guess trypophobia? I don't have it to an extreme amount but I feel uncomfortable every time I look at the ends of my bamboo chopping boards
