2d photo about Russia is a procession orfanize by regime. Jfyi, Putin himself participated in it. 100% not "russians fighting against regime".

The Russian state pays respects to the Soviet Union because socialism is more popular in Russia than capitalism is. United Russia tries to steer it into a Russian nationalist direction, but the underlying fact is that Russia needs socialism to return, and people feel this very well. That's why the Russian state tries to support these demonstrations.

As one who was born in Russia and have been living there for 30 years until 2022 when the shitty government started the brutal invasion to Ukraine, I see this completely different. Russia is far away from socialism and is reuled by oligarchs. All the praise to Soviet Union is about only war propaganda to justify the imperial wars organized by Putin and his friends oligarchs.

Russia will not reform its way to socialism. The very fact that the nationalists cannot address the needs of the people is why Soviet nostalgia is rising. United Russia will not bring socialism, but it also doesn't have much support outside of support for Putin himself, which will not outlast him. In the long run, a return to socialism is a necessity for the Russian people.

It also helps that DPRK, China, and Vietnam are some of the main Russian allies now. People used to look up to the west and wanting to become like the Americans and the Europeans. Now, they've been cured of that thanks to the war, and they're increasingly looking at what's happening in the socialist states they're allied with and realizing Russia could've been developing like that as well if the socialist path wasn't abandoned.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yep! Excellent point, through the war they have developed ties that are incredibly difficult for the nationalists to explain why they can better give people what they want. It's accelerating this process.

Yup, and I think you're completely right that United Russia is basically propped up by Putin's personality. Once he's gone, there will be a power vacuum and KPRF only keeps getting more popular. They're not without problems, but they're way further left than anything in the west.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Again, agreed. It would be nice if the KPRF were similar to the Bolsheviks under a Lenin/Stalin/Sverdlov style figure, but it's also important to know that the people make revolution, and so in the process of revolution it is the people that take power, guided by the party, not the party alone.

couldn't have put it better myself

I wouldn't say cured, but the veil is slowly lifting.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's fair, there's still a lot of work to be done there. At least most libs, like the one in this thread, fled Russia now, so the healing process can begin.

Lol. Mean ass. ❤️

when the shitty government started the brutal invasion to Ukraine

What should a state do when the most prolific invader in the world starts amassing troops and weapons on its border, especially after conducting a coup against a neighbouring state?

[–] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Most protests are organised by the state. We are ruled by GLOBAL oligarchs, I don't see why the frog people look any dumber than any of the other protesters? They were just as effective in implementing change. If you enjoy the banner aesthetic good for you.

[–] sunsofold@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The frog suits were about making it hard for fox news types to show a load of black bloc guys shouting and looking scary to justify greater police violence. It's much more difficult to get even incredibly stupid people to look at an inflatable unicorn and think scary monster than a masked man in all black.

So wear khaki chinos and navy polos, white sneakers. Cops will be confused af and wonder if they're counters.

Wait a second. My point was only the TS` points were wrong at least for the "protests in Russia" simply because the photo are 9th May pride and the state backed action. You can check it by yourself by finding original pictures and checking the background story.

[–] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

All of them are state backed.

[–] sem@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

I was living in Russia this time and I recognized the photo. And because I as a local have a context, I left a comment that the second photo in a row is misleading.

HEY PEDOPHILES LOOK AT ME, I DRESSED UP LIKE A SILLY CLOWN AND I THREW OUT GREEN DILDOS

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 8 points 1 day ago

I mean, there is some historical precedent for the tactic of forcing authoritarians to look silly if they try to arrest you:

How many guns in the crowd?

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

the real irony here is that the american version gets shutdown immediately if a gun is found among the ~~pep rally goers~~ protestors

not if it is a "mostly peaceful protest." the cops open the gates then.
