We can all see what's going on in the Strait of Hormuz. The emperor has no clothes.

What we still can't see are the rest of the Trump-Epstein files.

Textbook dominance move. “We are going to hit you and you can’t hit us back. If you do, we will hit you again.”

He's a bully, it's the only thing he knows how to do

The only right move is to stand up to bullies.

Bring on the american embargo. Canadians have been too foolish since ww2.

we can also make our own hamburgers and import our own coffee.

.. and stop water flowing over the border, and raw lumber, and stop exporting potash. Though they'd probably invade if we did either of those, and we almost certainly can't afford to stop exporting entirely. But in principle they unilaterally broke treaties with Canada, so why shouldn't Canada do the same?

Just don't buy anything till these fux get over it. No buying, no tariffs. ffs!

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I think we need to do more than wait Trump out, we cannot get to this point again.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 4 points 6 days ago

Agreed! There are a whole lot of laws that need to be made to prevent this extremity of and certainly even these types of crimes from ever happening again if we are to restore the USA to a functional democracy. Have you specific suggestions?

And as regards these tariffs, I'm going to buy as little as possible, and as much local as possible, generally. There are exceptions, e.g. and yes it gets this 'nitty gritty': I will continue to buy green tea from the Japanese company I've used for decades. No tariff on tea. And I will admit that I have enough tea ware for now, and not buy tea ware from this company as there IS a tariff on that. smh.

Support local businesses that might be struggling due to tariffs

PC's and Neolibs created NAFTA. This is the reason the U.S dominates us like this.

Canadians need to learn a hard lesson about repeatedly voting in robber barons for decades upon decades.

Feels like there will be some lead up to eventually Carney having enough enough and bringing out the export taxes.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

Let's see what the Carney team has prepared for this. They have made it sound like they have been wargaming such an escalation for months.
