How does that compare to the normal flu? And did flu related deaths go down?
Don't forget, they stopped reporting a lot of COVID related deaths as COVID a while back. Lots of sweeping things under the rug.
They stopped monitoring the waste water for signs of Covid illness in my area years ago. Not because the numbers had gone down.
This whole epidemic was sweeping under rugs from start to probably forever. Insane malpractice on so many levels and right wing nut jobs cry about governments asking them to wear masks or getting a shot as if that was a problem.
I find some irony in the fact that a lot of those that refused to wear masks during Covid are now wearing masks as ICE.
Well, yeah... As ICE, the masks protect THEM, not other people. That's all they care about.

There's a really bad surge in Texas right now that hit me like a truck. I'd had it a few times before, but this was by far the worst and the shortness of breath and brain fog aren't going away this time.
Meanwhile RFK Jr, the anti-vaxx nut job that is in charge of the HHS, is doing his damnedest to prevent the most recent version of the covid vaccine from making it to market.

Lucky you. I got that the first time I had Covid during the pandemic. I was one of the "lucky" 35% or of people that ended up with those long term effects. I still lose words in mid sentence and can't remember what I was going to say next. The word is there in my head, and then instantly gone. It's the worst thing in the world......

These are insane numbers! Somehow the long covid ones are the ones that scare me the most. An ex colleague of mine got long covid after an infection in 2023-2024 (when covid “was over”). She now has so much brain fog she can’t live independently anymore… scary shit
Indeed.... I know somebody who else has it and is just energy starved like crazy. If she goes anywhere she just crashes in the evening and needs 3 days to recover. Doing anything is basically wondering whether its worth it to crash for 2 days afterwards...
And the research for it has dropped. So its basically an "I hope it passes this month" by the doctors as there's no actual treatment (apparently).

I got long COVID and now my memory is like the guy from Memento.
Obviously I'm exaggerating, I have trouble remembering what I've done yesterday though
It's surprising how many of the long COVID symptoms are common with ADHD. I will expand on this topic later but right now I have to find my car keys.

Yesterday I heard that in my country of the Netherlands, 4 people received euthanasia last year due to long covid. Euthanasia is doctor assisted suicide, and to receive it you must prove "unbearable suffering" with no hope of improvement. They weren't super old either, the youngest was 51.
It can attack every system within our bodies, and even hurt our brains if we're unlucky. We failed to contain and stop the spread. Now it's mutated and will be with our species for the foreseeable future. Videos of those with really bad long covid are so sad. Physics Girl had her whole YouTube channel flipped and talked about it openly. Fascinatingly horrifying.
Yeah, that why it was first misdiagnosed as a respiratory illness and only months later it was discovered it’s a BLOOD illness.
We should call it the ‘blood flu’ … might make people realize it’s not a simple cold.
"It only kills old or unhealthy people. What's the big deal? Why should I have to sacrifice for them?"
Bunch of ghouls won't get it unless they're impacted directly. Even then, they'd probably try to pivot.

My partner has long COVID; from that we see a community of those getting diagnosed is increasing as well.
I always found it interesting how most people seemed to only focus on survivability. Like, COVID was almost always spoken about as if there were only two outcomes: die or not die. Conversations about the disease, virus, or vaccines often completely ignored the lasting damage that the disease can leave survivors with.
