Overview:

Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

Headline is just a straight up lie. There's no "battery breakthrough". It's just an extremely efficient design, with all the compromises that go along with it.

50 mile range without the dieselgate style software?

Not true, this is an actual usable car:

Engineers could have pushed things further by placing the ID Polo on a crash diet, but the company wanted to keep it as close to the production model as possible.

Tell me you didn't read the article without telling me you didn't read the article.

I'll never understand why people comment on articles they don't read. They're just wasting everyone's time, their own included.

I'll never understand why people waste their time reading articles with a blatant lie right in the title?

I read the original content directly from VW.

If there's something more you need explained, feel free to ask.

Obviously the one stated, the VW ID Polo.

Now boost the I'd.buzz range.

I wonder how those wheel cover things would work in the snow?

[–] manmachine@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

As Saab found out in the sixties, very poorly indeed, they promptly redesigned to get rid of those.

The range does not come from the battery, it's the aero shape and high geared motor.

So they basically tried turning their Polo into an Aptera 😅

Ah, I didn't know you could actually buy that one (for >100k).

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Except this is real, and a car, not a mobility scooter.

[–] poVoq@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"Real" as in concept car that will never be produced, while the Aptera is actually planned for production 🙄
