There's no such thing as unskilled labor. Compare someone doing "unskilled" labor for five years to someone doing it for five weeks and then tell me if you still think people are easily replaceable.
Technology
A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

First sentence of the article:
Look, if you are still stuck on “AI cannot really think, it’s just a stochastic parrot”, please snap out of it and lock in, or you’ll keep repeating that line until you find yourself sitting in the corner chair, watching as ChatGPT™ has sex with your wife.
It's really nice to have an author that makes it clear that their opinion is utter dog shit in the very first few words of an article, so I don't have to read the rest of it.
You should really try reading the rest of it, you'll probably agree with it given that its an entirely negative view of AI, just one that isnt willfully blind.
Hard pass.
I read the rest of it. It was not worth my time.
AGREE WITH ME OR THE BOT WILL FUCK YOUR WIFE lmao
I thought that was a weird opener, but then they bring up the same thing a second time halfway down the article.
Amazing that somebody can write an article citing Cory Doctorow while missing literally everything has ever said about AI
Didn't the West go through a replacement a few centuries ago, of physical ability being valued with intelluctual ability being valued? How have the devalued demographic fared since? Of course, they have since been dislodged to a good extent by automation, which is exactly what might happen to the currently-valued demographic too soon-ish.
How have the devalued demographic fared since?
To a large extent, they have been replaced with non-citizens. While much is made of physical ability being replaced by machines, it's far from 100% achieved today. Where physical labor remains necessary, it's largely filled by a "2nd society" - and members of the "1st society" rarely entertain the notion of pursuing anything resembling a career in doing the physical labor. Meanwhile, the "2nd society" gets abused with limited if any protections from hazardous working conditions, etc.
