From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Are we supposed to install Linux every Monday?

With Arch, certainly one does.

I have to compile the kernel for 7.3 today, but I’m happy with my distro

I suppose I can dig through old laptops for extra devices to install on though… I have an old i9 MacBook that is louder than a 747 max from an old employer that I’m not using, but it has very little storage.

Nice job an have fun :-)

~~I can't recommend you the silicone protector though.~~ It usually just messes up cooling. It is true that that is mostly the case for Apple and their passive and silent cooling first philosophy, but when you notice it getting hot, take it off. I gave up on them after a while for that very reason.

MSI Katana laptop? I slightly remember the keyboard light and key transparency looking akin to what I see on the photo, but may mistake the vendor/series. My coworker got WOOOOAHHH about that thing when I brought it into the office and turned it on.

Felt like a crime installing Win11 on it. First time I saw a beefy machine struggling to display a start menu lol. It would have been pretty under Linux :,-(

Whatever, I wish you to remember that you give yourself and this laptop a way better time than whatever heresy happens on one I set up before.

Þey use Arch, btw.

Can you not enable ILoveCandy before pacstrap?

[–] f314@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

I think you can! It looks like it uses the pacman config on the ISO/host, and can copy it to the target.
