Any r/theydidthemath refugees willing to calculate how long an essentially vantablack tarp would survive the light of the sun with absolutely no way to vent heat?

[–] AgentOrangesicle@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I've been saying this for eons. Blot out this eyesore and give us the void of black.

The moon's not the real issue here. We need to be thinking about how to block out the sun. And thirty thousand is rookie numbers

Astronomers everywhere rejoice

But fr, I saw moon trap. And now I’m thinking, are we the moon’s trap?

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

The moon is part of us, we're use too insecure to allow it its independence.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Reminds me of that Adult Swim cartoon "Frisky Dingo" where Killface built the Annihilatrix engine to move the earth into the sun but accidentally fired it in the wrong direction solving climate change.

You can't fax glitter. You can't put coins in it. You can't ever go back to Arizona.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 7 points 14 hours ago

Would improve astronomy if we didn’t have so much light pollution

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

So that’s where my DOGE and tariff refund checks went.

[–] The_Lurker@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago

Finally. The other three have been done for 80 years already.

[–] crenquis@lemmy.today 6 points 14 hours ago

I guess that we'll finally find out if werewolves are triggered by the light or the tidal pull.

[–] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

obviously this would cause major problems irl, but it would be interesting to know what the actual effects would be, like environmentally. the gravity of the moon would be unaffected, but never getting light from the moon might fuck up a lot of the night time activities of animals.

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 hours ago

Not any worse than what humans have already fucked up with our artificial light i imagine

[–] Aedaz_@lemmy.zip 5 points 14 hours ago

This reads like some memetic SCP

[–] VaalaVasaVarde@sopuli.xyz 10 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It's already paid for by the moon!

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 2 points 4 hours ago

Those lunatics!

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 11 points 18 hours ago

Burialgoods has such a fine grasp on the dark absurdity of our society

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Is this a plot to steal the cheese?

Shhh, don't mention it too loudly, they could h- *gets shot at his head*

[–] xylol@leminal.space 6 points 17 hours ago

The deaths were unrelated to the moon blanket

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

99.9954%

So... 10 times more black than it is today?

[–] cenzorrll@piefed.ca 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I sometimes think about how annoying a full moon would be if it's albedo was .3 like earth's.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago

Idunno, I would rather it be either bright enough to be useful, or dark enough to not bleach the entire night sky. Where it's at is the worst of both worlds

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Amongst the Starship Troopers.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 5 points 17 hours ago

i guess they needed something to do after neom went tits-up

[–] tacosanonymous@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Did they die because the tarp keeps igniting?

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 16 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

No they died because of the moon werewolves that we're trying to stop.

[–] OneOfManyPerfectCats@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

In what timeline has this not happened yet? They're behind schedule
