I took photos at an evening Christmas parade once. It was very hard to get enough light on people's faces. You probably want to figure out a good way to use flash for at least some of the shots.

I will suggest a lesson from the story:

In the photography business, many decision-makers value business skills over photography skills.

I am not saying that's a pleasant thought, but it might be true.

I like electronic hand warmers. A charge lasts for hours.

Keep one in your pocket. Put your hand in there when you want to keep your hand warm. Take your hand out when you need to adjust something on the camera. More convenient than taking mitts on and off.

If the camera is on a tripod and the subject is at least moderately stationary, I will use manual focus. Macro is the common scenario.

A lot of the time, my glasses are just dirty.

I always have Zeiss wipes around for my camera lenses anyways. I am trying to develop the habit of cleaning my glasses more often. Those wipes work great but they are an environmental disaster.
