I'm curious what people's thoughts are on this.
I'm a fairly new photographer and have done some pro-bono work with an EF 24-70 2.8 l lens adapted to an R10. The photos were a hit and now the client is offering to pay me to work a few upcoming events for them. I'm definitely going to say yes, but am now wondering what I should do with regards to redundancy - the R10 doesn't have dual slots and I don't have a backup digital camera. These events aren't exactly high pressure, but I don't want to fuck up the first opportunity I'm getting to get my foot in the door for paid work. Some of the ideas that have popped into my head:
- Rent a full frame R series body and use my R10 as a backup
- Buy a cheap used DSLR to use as a backup until I've saved enough to buy a full frame camera of my own
- Bring one of my EOS film cameras as a backup (this seems absurd to me)
Any thoughts?
A lot of people are being realistic here, but don't take that to mean you shouldn't try. At this point the most valuable thing you can do is learn is that failure can be a good thing. Understanding what doesn't work is just as valuable as understanding what does, and making mistakes with the intention of learning from them is the best way to get that understanding.
