Not that many people know about the Blancpain as brand. More people probably know what a speedmaster at a glance than know what a Blancpain is. On top of all of that, the MoonSwatch/Speedmaster looks better.

I have this exact watch. It's my dad's wedding watch actually and it got passed down to me.

I don't know if it's a fake but I can confirm that given the dial and it's size, its a rolex air king around the time of 1970s to 1980s. Last time I checked it went for somewhere around 3-5k? I'm not too up to date on the price only because I'm not looking to sell it.

I guess story time but....

When my dad got married he was gifted a rolex and he wore that for a long time. For reasons that I don't quite know, he decided that the rolex was a pain in the ass to wear and he's switched watches since then. But I remember as a kid for the longest time, my dad wore a cheap casio diver for a long long time. That's just what he wore. So I guess he did switch from an expensive brand to a cheaper brand.

Personal opinion? I currently wear a BB58 as my daily driver. But to be honest, I can appreciate a lot of cheaper watches no problem. From time to time you'll catch me wearing my Hamilton or Kuoe watch. Both watches are a fraction of the price of the bb58 but I still wear them. Why? Because I like the way they look. I like the way all my watches look, price doesn't matter. At the end of the day I will never wear a Richard Mille watch because I think they're ugly as fuck.

Truthfully speaking......alright watches are cool. Luxury brands are cool. But at the end of the day it's just a watch and I think that's what a lot of people get to. So then they switch out to a cheaper watch for a variety of reasons. We like to get into discussions about movement and finishing and accuracy and so on and so on? But really it's just a watch. Those things are stupid. We just need something to tell the time.

Whatever you get your dad, I'm sure he'll be happy to wear it. The emotional attachment of you giving him a watch is going to be worth more than any other watch he owns.

I would love to get my hands on the white snoopy speedmaster.

There's no way I'm getting that watch ever. Between the fact that nobody wants to sell it and the price tag, many things have to align for me to get my hands on one.

After I bought my bb58 I'm basically done with watches. At least, I'm done until I make rolex money. Which given what I've heard about rolex stores, might actually be never (and I'm fine with that). At the end of the day I'm only going to wear one watch and when you need to wear your watch to keep it ticking, multiple automatics become a hassle.

I like watches. I like looking at watches. But that's about it. I bought plenty of cheap microbrands back in the day to know what I like and what I don't like. These days I like talking to watch people and I like my bb58.
