I fear this is a problem that may never be solved. I mean that people of any intelligence fall for the mind's biases.
There's just too little to be gained feelings-wise. Yeah, you make better decisions, but you're also sacrificing "going with the flow", acting like our nature wants us to act. Going against your own nature is hard and sometimes painful.
Making wrong decisions is objectively worse, leading to worse outcomes, but if it doesn't feel worse (because you're not attributing the effects of the wrong decisions to the right cause, i.e. acting irrationally), then why should a person do it. If you follow the mind's bias towards attributing your problems away from irrationality, it's basically a self-fulfilling prophecy.

You're absolutely right, but the average person does not think like you. Most people don't ever think about stuff like this.
And so you currently have a very "high-level", rational view of technology, that makes it amazing specifically for you.
However, you either disregard or lack contact with people that are (vastly) different. When looking at a technology in relation to the world, like you want to know about in this topic, you have to view the effects on those different people from you as well. And what other people in this thread said is simply observable and happening. A very small percentage uses the internet/technology like you do. The overall effect on the population is not solely amazing.
This "directly" distinction you're making is not very relevant.
Usually "direct" would mean that without it, it wouldn't have happened. Yes, whatever broke the glasses would've happened without the glasses as well, but it likely wouldn't have resulted in a scratched cornea. So yes, the scratched cornea is a direct effect of having worn glasses.

People like putting blame on "society", and while societal pressures surely play a part, the reason it's so nice to mainly blame society is because it creates a problem that has an acceptable solution.
Because what do you say when you say society is mainly to blame here? You're saying it's completely fine for many men not to have sex. Just have to fix society making it hard for them to live without sex. If my assumption is correct though, that doesn't help those men very much. But who does it help? Anyone those men would want to have sex with, because they're not under "threat" anymore.
I mean, that's basically the same as Arch.
There's always more to it as well. That's maybe what people don't get. Yeah, not having sex is terrible, but if it's the only thing unpleasant it's bearable. But if other shit starts piling on top, then it becomes misery. Then people might say "oh it's only society".

My friend, just set up Signal on their phones, put it in place of the Telegram app and watch them not even notice anything changed.

Rewrite links to Lemmy posts/comments to point to your home instance. Only after hovering over them, because getting home posts/comments links require communicating with the Lemmy servers, and we don't want to spam the servers.
Instantly rewrite all links of community or user links to Lemmy/kbin on all websites everywhere to your new instance! The rewritten links will have an icon next to it, and hovering/touching the icon will show you the original link, allowing you to go there if you want to.
If you are already on a page that has a corresponding page on your home instance, a link will automatically be added to the page header.
Home Instance Setup
Simply visit the Lemmy instance you want to set as your home while the script is active. You will be asked if you want to set this instance to your home instance:

If you want to change your home instance or add secondary instances in case you have multiple accounts, simply go to the script settings, accessible within Violent/Tampermonkey directly, or alternatively within any Lemmy instances' settings.
