Lol. Mine was a tape drive, then 360kb diskette. But even today I have a OpenMediaVault server with 256MB of memory and its fine for audio and 720p streaming. The key is software optimization...which Windows seems bad at.

Have you checked home automation forums? Some users are fanatics about tweaking stuff. Maybe there is a method or override option. Or see if you can get manufacturer on the phone.

The only hardware I had trouble with was a 3D Connexion Space Pilot. Linux defaults to seeing it as a tablet mouse or track nub, rather than a 6 axis 3D controller. The Linux download from the site did get it working though.
