You know, I read this whole back and forth, and the only takeaway I have is that you have absolutely no idea how any of these technologies work. Like at all. I’m not saying this to be a dick or anything -it’s ok to not know things- but it’s painfully obvious in this case because your lack of fundamental understanding is the core of your argument.
And if you did understand how the tech works, you’d probably get why those options are used instead of your layman’s idea of a good idea. Which is not, in fact, a good idea at all for a variety of reasons. Which is exactly why these other things are being discussed and supported by people who do understand them (and I’m not talking about the rest of the Lemmy comments either, I mean in the real world).
There are tons of scenarios where cell towers/fm transmitters for an area would go down, but cars would still be fully operable. But even if that wasn’t the case, why do you want to remove a public safety option that currently exists, even if you don’t and won’t use it? The only people who benefit are big companies (the exact ones whining they don’t want to comply) that don’t care about you, so why do you give a shit if this inconveniences them?
Yet if you want to start with well, it’ll always change itself to we’ll. Because of course. (Which I had to go back in and edit twice to make it read how I wanted, because it’s aggressive and will do what it wants even several words later, so be real fucking careful.)
Same with Wed (like Wednesday)/wed and we’d (which I originally wrote in the opposite order but when I wrote the second one it decided I wanted to change the first to match.. so fun!)
But one can’t turn off autocorrect because that’s a disaster too.. impossible to hit the right letters.
So around my early-April birthday I’m used to chaos.
That’s what spring is like. It’s supposed to be weird.
But it’s gotten so weird.. my lilacs got frostbite, and half of the spring growth died… They budded in early March and then several frosts followed.. because of course they did. That’s spring. But man the plants are confused.
How’d you manage that?
I always feel relief when I’m out of the commitment but actually breaking it makes me feel like crap.
I grow stuff (mostly peppers and tomatoes for a while now, but I’m adding squash to hand pollinate and strawberries this year) in deep water culture hydro, which involves a 5 gallon bucket of nutrient water and an air pump creating bubbles. Super basic setup geared toward “permanent” plants that keep producing indefinitely, or big plants like weed. Works well since complex and long-term don’t mix well for me. Way way back in the day on the forum I used to frequent, dwc setups were called bubble buckets.
And I like monkeys, I relate to them.
However doing a quick internet search shows that apparently there’s an anonymous recreational drug information page under the same name (among numerous other things) so that’s a bit awkward.. I’ve got nothing against drugs, but nothing to do with that site either.
It’s only legitimate if it’s a way for the government to coerce
As it is with all violence, unfortunately.
I made a similar comment to this several days ago.
It takes 46 hours to go from Chicago to Seattle by train, and only 30 by car, for a difference of a whopping 16 hours. Even stopping to sleep for the night, you can get there faster driving. If you don’t get a sleeper, it’s decently cheap at like $120. But still, double the time isn’t appealing to most anyone, especially when actually comfortable accommodations for 2 days are wildly more expensive.
I’d love to travel by train, but it’s just too slow to be practical, even if you really don’t have much going on (if you have pets, for example, that extra week for travel can really get cumbersome). If it was equivalent time to driving (or faster would be great) I think you’d see a lot more people adopting it. Even if it doesn’t replace all the air travel, to just have it cut down cross-country driving would be great. Unfortunately that means a huge investment in rail infrastructure, and a lot of time, to bring the network up to speed.
At your recommendation (with your post being 9 hours old - the thing is really long) I read the whole thing start to finish, and just finished. It’s been a hard (emotionally) read and I’ve had a headache since I started it, but it was worth it, and I’m glad the dude is doing at least passably well in life, all things considered.
And at the end when he mentions he was sent in 98 at just past 16.. I was sent to a military boarding school at almost 14 in 00, essentially for having adhd, mild autism, and a single parent who swung between negligence and authoritarianism, and I’m just really lucky my mom found one of the less bad places. A legitimate school that was only a bit abusive (but really not a super appropriate environment for most children either way). Because I could have met that person in hell if things had played out a bit differently. And that’s a really sobering thought. I’m glad I didn’t have it until the end.
You forgot that they also have more than one rock model!
