I presume so, but there might be an X.org version because of NVIDIA, who still seems to be problematic with Wayland when using their drivers.

Wayland has worked better than X.org in my experience.

I tried i3 with Compton and Picom - both compositors for X.org - and it had major rendering issues, both on AMD (weird lagging) and NVIDIA (colour issues). Meanwhile I tried Hyprland on a spare PC and it provides a great tiled WM with both form and function. If anything'll get me on a tiled WM, it'll be Hyprland now. I'm also looking forward to Wayfire. We need a spiritual successor to Compiz.

It hurts small providers more than anything. My main fediverse instance has locked everything down in fear of retaliation. They might be paranoid, but at the same time I don't blame them. Not to mention, the smaller providers will find it harder if not impossible to fund for compliance with this. It ironically makes Big Tech stronger.

Oddly enough, another site I frequent - Rate Your Music - separated the main site and the forums at the same time. They blame it on "technology companies", I wouldn't be surprised if it was this exact bill and Ofcom that forced their hands.

I use userChrome.css to hide that. However, if Mozilla wants to focus on customisability, like that one WIRED article said they were focusing on, simple stuff like this should be toggleable, either by the user or an extension. Apps that replicate Vivaldi's Workspaces feature (like Simple Tab Groups, or Sidebery with its panels) already have the ability to hide/show tabs with your permission, can't see why they can't just hide the tab bar...

If OP can work a terminal, they could work Archinstall out at least. Though Endeavour includes other things that Arch wouldn't in a desktop profile install. A firewall is a big one. I had to install UFW when installing Arch with GNOME, whereas Endeavour comes bundled with firewalld.

If you're fine with rolling release distros, go for EndeavourOS. It's based on Arch (uses the Arch repos as well as its own for its specific needs) but has everything configured for a working desktop out of the box. There's not much I can say that everyone else hasn't, if you like the Arch ecosystem but don't like the (potential) tedium of setting it up, EndeavourOS is good. The thing with rolling release distros is that the package release cycle is not stable. This is not to be confused with reliability, Arch can be a reliable distro, but where most distros stay on a particular version for its release cycle, a rolling release distro updates its packages as soon as the new version comes out. If you want that, then go full steam ahead on Endeavour.

I'm gonna throw another distro for you to try, if you're not a fan of the nature of rolling release: Nobara. You mention you wanted something stable with a good package manager, and IMO Nobara fits the bill. Like how EndeavourOS is based on Arch, Nobara is a gaming-oriented distro based on Fedora, which updates every six months. The guy who runs it works/worked for Red Hat and is responsible for the GE-Proton patches that help extend Steam Play compatibility unofficially, and he wanted to make something that was as easy as switching a game console on. There are a lot of patches and tweaks done to the kernel and apps as needed, to ensure that the user doesn't need to reach for the terminal as often, if at all. You can still do your productive work on Nobara, you can just think of it as Fedora (an already solid workstation distro) but with a gaming flair to it.

TL;DR: For stable releases, get Nobara. For rolling releases, get EndeavourOS. If one pisses you off in the future, go for the other lol

The original headline had Reddit "flatly deny" claims they were walling off their site to those who weren't logged in. Lmao, the company lied about the API and lied about Christian (Apollo's dev), of course they're going to lie about whether they'll wall off their site. Especially since the CEO is influenced by Elon who has walled Twitter off.

I don't even use Reddit for that anymore. If I've got a problem there's plenty of forums I can consult for help, or I can post the question here on Lemmy, on the fediverse, on Bluesky, you get the idea.

I managed to get a Windows XP virtual machine working with GPU passthrough thanks to a forum MattKC (tech youtuber who does repairs and reverse engineering) had set up and posted on. Even when I used Reddit, there wasn't much info on getting BIOS-only versions of Windows working.

They already are. Some projects used Discord a file host even if they have a page on GitHub or similar services that allows you to package up releases, and Discord is now making it so you can't just hotlink to them anymore.

Always assume nothing in politics and law is "permanent". You never know when you're gonna get backstabbed, even if you like the people in power.
