I have Podcast Addict, I think its free but I paid a few dollars because of the great selection of settings and options I never knew I needed.

(For example I have it configured so that after 5pm the Sleeptimer automatically makes the podcast fade down and pausing after 10' of listening, unless I move/shake the phone during the fade down-part, then it extends for another 10'. Perfect for using it in public transport or in bed and dozing off.)

Tbh switzerland has a similar system to the SGAE, where there is a "hidden tax" on all devices that you can load with data. And in turn the downloading of media (with the exclusion of computerprograms and games) is legal. Only the upload of copyrighted material is forbidden.

Not a bad system imo, the tax is so small that you dont really notice it so its a pretty consumer-friendly and piracy-friendly solution. Altho I assume the swiss government gets away with it because it would be too expensive to lobby/legal for a copyrightsholder-favoured system compared with the small amount of people (let alone pirate) who live here.

Symphonium: The best money I ever spent on an app.

[–] Freeman@feddit.de 1 points 6 months ago

I am 70% sure this is correct, i remember vaguely: The swiss law was written in 2019 iirc. The idea is that there is a high tax on drives/usb sticks/dvds and all such devices. This gets distributed to copyrightholders in some way. And uploading is illegal.

I mean, integrated recipies seem helpful, as it can tell you what when to add and with the scale already integrated it seems convinient. No? And some models have an integrated induction heater (up to 180°) so they can cook as well. So if you are alone and cooking a onepot or sth. you dont have to get out the pans or use the oven. I even heard of a device which is connected to a recipie database and an shopping-list-app. It seems convinient if everything is connected.

The appliance in the picture is a standmixer + scale + induction cooker with additional features to do much more (if you buy them ofc). What I dont know is if the app/wifi connection is required or optional, if its required I am not buying it.

It appeals to me because you can just throw in the ingredients the appliance tells you to and after 10-20 mins you have a done onepot, soup, dough or sauce. But am worried about the software part of this becuse I am with you about those 5 years and then they lose interest. But those companies are reputable and have a long history of repairing their devices and giving new warranty on it after the repair. So that makes me optimistic, kinda.

Has anyone experience how bad the proriatary software is on such machines? For Kenwood there is an app (Kenwood World App) which apparently guides you through the cooking-process. Does anyone have a idea for how long this app or other apps from similar machines will be maintained? Does anyone have experience of using such a device without an internet connection?

I am sure that there wont ever be a simple foss app which can connect to such a device, but how bad is it? I am worried that the new Kenwoods wont be as durable as the old one I had (had it handed down, was around 30yo), because the software will be discontinued.

Looking for people with experiences with such machines and their software-side.

Thats what I do now: Click the post to read the comments, Click the icon on the top right Click Top Read the top comments.

Go to the next post, repeat.

I'd want to set a default sort option (to top) or maybe have it saved for all post or for each community separately.

I am no programmer and am not sure if I am allowed to post this here, so delete if you want.

My suggestion: Like the default sort for posts we need a default sort for comments. There should be a dropdown menu like there already is for default sort posts.

Nintendo already shouldnt care about it, as they dont release good emulators/PC Versions anyway.

And Fahrenheit 451, another classic

I am very anti monopolies but your first point isnt really a reason. There are many companies that are sistercompanies which are different on purpose. Like VW and Porsche or Dell and Omen. The different branding is normally used to get to different consumer groups.

Just out of curiosity: What kind of files are you talking about?

I dont want to seem ungreatful, I downloaded a really rare piece of music history that way (over almost 2 weeks) and am seeding it now. But I am genuiently interested, how this happens. Surely no connection is that bad, even with vpn and up/down-limit?

What media have you found in best quality or even only with the methods of the high seas?

I am not looking for: "I only use my super jellyfin and so on setup because its almost free". But rather I want to hear if you found rare pieces of media which are maybe even lost otherwise.

The aim is to have a qbittorrent setup combined with a service like plex (or jellyfin?) to easily stream music, movies and TV shows to my mobile devices.

Is there a comprehensive guide or list of good software and hardware one could use to accomplish such a thing?

What I know/have already:

  • Good, paid VPN: Mullvad
  • Mediaserver software: Jellyfin
  • Torrenting software: qbittorrent
  • ???

The link that gets generated when sharing a post or comment is not recognized by the app.

So if I send a link to a mate and then click it myself (or he does, doesnt matter), then the browser-app opens instead of the jerboa app.

Is there a possibility of fixing this? Or is it not possible because of the different instances which generate different urls?

Occuring on the newest version on android. Maybe someone knowledgeable ongithib can open an issue or even fix it themselfes.

The last shown symbol might also weirdly get smaller if there is not enough space for the whole symbol.

You know there is the tree points on every post and every comment where the further options like blocking, sharing, copying and so on is.

This menu doesnt show up when you click on a post you have already seen. This makes no sense as the menu us there on seen posts before clicking the post

Tldr: If "Show read posts" is off, it hides seen posts. But it also hides them when viewing a communitys top posts and even on your own profile under "Posts".

Let me explain: Lets say you click through your feed, see a bunch of posts from a community. Then you make a own post to that community.

After that you see that your post have blown up, so you want to see, if it is the topmost post in this community. So you search for the community and sort for "top all time".

Now the problem: It in the settings you have "hide seen posts" you cannot see the posts, any posts, that you have seen previously, not even your own. And not even in your own profile, where every post is already read, so its eternally empty.

I think that being on a community should overrule the "hide seen" setting.

Comparison left vs right for a craftsman who doesnt know which one he should buy:

  • l/r same bed size

  • r lower bed for way easier loading/unloading

  • r less likely to crash

  • r less fuel consumption and costs

  • r less expensive to repair

  • r easy to park

  • r easy to get around in narrow places like crowded construction sites or towns

  • r not participating in road arms race

  • l You get taken serious by your fellow carbrained americans because ""trucks"" are normalized and small handy cars are ridiculed.

So unless you are a fragile piece of human, choose the right one.
