Well it's hosted in The Netherlands and I did take some steps to protect my own identity in regards to registration info, but if the studios did take an interest i'd probably have some fun with it by decaliring bankrupcy and dragging out the appeals.

If my server is already open to everyone, what kind of potential attacks do i need to be worried a about? I dont keep personal files on my streaming server, its just videos, music and isos/roms. I dont restrict sign ups, so the idea of an unauthorized user doing something like download a video is a non issue for me really.

I do see where there could be problems for folks running jfin on the same server they keep private photos or for people who charge users for acess, but thats not me.

Am i missing something or is the main result of most of these that a "malicious" actor could dowload files jellyfin has access to without authentication?

It's not legal, its just that laws don't matter for the ruling class In the USA. It works because the only people with the ability to legally arrest Musk aren't going to do so, and any court cases can just be endlessly delayed or appealed.

Just share you idea. If all you need is some web development it cant really be that controversial.

You should not trust any company to stand up against court orders.

I like when companies openly show what data they do provide, all of the good vpns do.

Sunk cost is more then just money... Every reply here is some variation of "i would switch but i have all my ratings and users settings in plex already and dont know how to migrate"

Which i can understand paying because you dont have time, i just also think its foolish to pay for a service like plex when the main use case is piracy, something a company like plex clearly can not continue to support legally forever.

Eventually the big media corps will decide they need to end all library sharing options and plex will not be able to win that fight.
