The sookie stackhouse books that got turned into true blood have such a fun premise but are appallingly written. A friend and I used to play the audiobooks at parties for laughs.

That sounds like depression, executive dysfunction or some other brain dopamine issue. No amount of lists or "trying harder" (😂🙄) is going to help. Speak to a doctor about it.
My favorite genre is what I can screechy women singing weirdly. I can't decide whether my favorite part is the screeching or the weirdness.
I'd most recommend that other people listen to gamelan orchestras though. It's like the sound of dancing rain.
I'm using the well-published stats from Texas: https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2014704117
There aren't a lot of good data about this, but that's one of the more detailed that I've found from googling and seen referenced in a lot of articles and papers. It seems to have held up to some right wing scrutiny as well. I'm not an expert, just an interested nerd.
Figure 3 gives ~900 arrests per 100,000 people as the crime rate for official-channels migrants. Close to 1%. Undocumented immigrants come in at ~half that. Presidential arrest rate is 1 per 46, close to 2%.
From my reading there are some legitimate reasons to think the undocumented crime rate may be higher, but also that crime by immigrants may be even lower.
Undocumented people report crimes against themselves at a much lower rate. Because you're more likely to be a target of crime by a member of your own group, this probably means crimes by undocumented people are more likely to target undocumented people and go under-reported.
But the crime rate is judged by arrests, so if Texas law enforcement shows more willingness to arrest migrants than citizens - which seems v. likely to me - then we'd expect these numbers to over-estimate crimes by migrants.
Yeah the total number of SSNs already used would be higher than the current population, I would think. It didn't seem to me that poster was trying to estimate SSNs used/left, just provide some important numbers as relevant context.
It's been going since 1936 so ~90 years, and they reckon ~70 years left, so we have roughly 45% duration remaining. I'm guessing the rate of use speeds up over time and that has been accounted for, so probably we have more than 45% of the actual numbers left? I think I'd guess 450 million total used ssns.
I purpose that it's more fun that way.
Immigrants commit crimes at a lower rates than citizens do.
Not only that, but since trump's arrest, the crime rate among presidents is over double the crime rate among immigrants and maybe four times the crime rate of undocumented immigrants.
Well that's a lovely phrase to know!
I feel like I've struggled to express this concept in the past, often in arguments about the police. I'm definitely going to be saying that a lot now.
We're definitely capable of some amazingly counterintuitive behavior - things like moral panics, groups who make high risk travel, or high control cult groups. But again I'm not convinced that religion is causing that. A lot of those things have non religious examples as well - large parts of the cultural revolution sounds like a secular mania to me.
I still suspect these sorts of things are just human behavior. Even if we finally cast off religion for good, I fear we'd still see all the same things happening just with different explanations.
I believe it. The stories about him being deeply affected seemed plausible.
I suspect that the psychological effects of being nearly killed would operate below the level of self-introspection. Like trauma just happens and changes your behavior, whether you're very self aware or a senile narcissist.
Yeah there are definitely some earnestly religious people.
I just think that material circumstances, group identity, social status and things like that are what determine the behavior of social primates. Religion is a convenient explanation because it makes you look upstanding and can justify absolutely anything, really.
When I was an undergraduate, a friend of mine wrote a book review of the bible for the student newspaper.
The opening sentence was: "Not since Naked Lunch has such a boring book been saved by the constant barrage of sadomasochistic homosexual pornography."
